OFFICERS Autumn 1951 Spring 1952 Roxanne Herrick Roxanne Herrick President Dick Hanks Dick Hanks Vice-President Jean Gida Glen Tews Secretary Glen Tews Dorothy Shillinglaw Historian Charles Schneider Sponsor Mr. Arthur Larsen The prime objective of the Shutterbugs is to foster an interest in the art of photography among the students at Bowen. Meetings are held about twice a month. At these meetings, the members often hear speakers on dif- ferent phases of photography, such as filters, lens speeds, lenses, color photography, and dark room techni- que. However, the various subjects are made easy enough to understand, so that all members, whether ad- vanced camera enthusiasts or merely beginners, can profit from the talks. Many times the members them- selves speak to the rest of the group on a certain topic in which they are interested. The highlight of this past year was the sponsoring a schoolwide photo contest. This contest inspired the young photographers to out-do themselves in taking good pictures, which in itself is far more important than the material gain. But all is not business-the club also takes field trips to points of interest in the Chicago area, and the members spend half a day or so snapping pictures. Shutterbugs is a fairly new club, having been founded in 1946 by Mr. William H. Collins, the former assistant principal. Mr. Arthur Larsen, an art teacher, very ably took over the job as sponsor upon Mr. Collins, retirement. Twenty- four

U15 plllfl Amcrivau Klub The Pan-American Club has a total membership of 54. Every semester the club organizes a committee which in turn selects a group of talented students. These girls and boys work together to create a skit and then display their talents in it. This play is held on Columbus Day and also on Pan-American Day. At this time the Club demonstrates to the students and faculty of Bowen High the real meaning of these days. The members not only enjoy themselves in this undertaking, but take great satisfaction in knowing that they put across to others the principles involved in these great days. During the Frolics of 1952, the Pan-American Club proudly presented a South-American skit with joe Garcia and Bill Dawson taking the parts of Dean Martin and jerry Lewis as the main characters. Carmen Miranda, the Beautiful Dancing Girls and the Singing Waitresses were a few of the many acts that were represented. The Pan-American Club will always be one of the most active and worthwhile Balli, Irma Bolek, Richard Carlson, George Carrillo, Margaret Cortez, Rachel clubs in Bowen.
