qelauafuf 1950 ew ayiifoaq February fourth nuneteen hundred forty sux the sun rose the wund blew To most people all over the world ut was just another day but to a hundred young people thus day was very dufferent Thus was our furst day of Hugh School' Lufe was more unterestung now than ever before We had new goals new fruends new unterests and even new grapes We thrulled to our furst football season As sophomores we began to assume an actuve part un the functuonung of Bowen Hugh The feelung that thus was our school grew as we partucupated un actuvuty after actuvuty Many a pupul wushed the days were longer for sometumes we swamped our selves wuth dutues that were easy un theory but tume consumung un practuce That second year went fast A lot of our upperclass men fruends graduated and we lost many acquauntances we would have luked to know all our luves Along wuth our uunuor year we became upperclassmen Funny we weren t so bug or grown up as the upperclassmen of two years before There was no notuceable change un our status Some of us were elected to offuces of the many clubs to whuch we belonged Then we learned the most umportant lesson un our school luves workung together Thus knowledge would have to stuck wuth us throughout our enture careers for a person who cannot work wuth hus fellows us a socual musfut Our senuor year came wuthout all the attendant grandeur we thought ut to have just another semester wuth harder studues and structer teachers We started to evaluate the thungs the teachers had been tryung to pound un our heads our furst three years How many of us reproached ourselves over our prevuous neglugence' Our prom was guven uountly wuth the une Class Thus was the furst tume that thus had been done at Bowen and ut seemed to work out quute well The furst unduvudual class event was a memor able days excursuon to the Dunes In the fall our Barn Dance showed us that square dancung us no game for a tenderfoot Ouch' my feet' Soon the sunny days of Hugh School came to an end Some how graduatuon dud not hold the maguc whuch the thought of ut had back un lB Yes on that momentous day we duscovered the dufference between what we learn and what we duscovered the memory No we won t remember Bowen Hugh for the Latun we learned there But we wull remember Bowen Hugh for the fruends we made there for the teachers themselves and not the subuects they taught We wull remember Bowen for the personalutues for the human portuon of what we encountered Fufteen
