dard., M ARY Av!! AUDREY NOVAKOVICH CARLSON Trees. Vice Pres. GLORIA VIVIAN SCHWARZKOPF 'GRA-FF Bowcnite Ed. SUC- GEORGE GUGICH Pres. Glass flisfary af june 1944 Let your mind wander back four years to September 1940 and those first days at high school. Remember that sinking feeling you had when you opened the doors of Bowen with its long corridors and the endless stream of students. It seemed as though you'd never get into the swing of things, yet before you knew it you were part of Bowen life. We, were the fortunate class that first enjoyed our new addition with its sparkling swimming pool, bright spotless lunchroom and many modern class- rooms. The year passed quickly. We had settled down- to quiet existence as Sophomores when we were suddenly rudely awakened by our country becoming involved in war. The hush of air raid drills, the Red Cross Drives, the scrap drives, the sale of war bonds and stamps kept before our mind the catastrophe into which we had been plunged. December 7 will linger with us forever. Our third year arrived with equal speed. The more athletic became letter men and girls, and distinguished themselves in baseball, football, basketball, and track. The Girls Chorus gained city wide recognition for having won an Sn rating for three Vears in the Choral Contests. Many of us were to be honored with our T. P. A. key. The Honor Club was rapidly gaining new members and some achieved the coveted honor of becoming members of the National Honor Society. Before we knew it we were seniors. Yes, we were on top and mighty proud too. It was at this time that the U. S. Army began tqncall our eighteen year old class mates and many left our school to take an active part in the Great War. We have missed them and we know that they are bringing glory to our school by their participation in our fight for the ideals that Bowen has always held high. The election of officers provided excitement and soon after came preparation for the Prom. That night at the Medinah Club will linger in our memories as one of the grand experiences in our High School Career. Then came the big event, graduation on June 21, 1944. Complete in cap and gown we marched down that long aisle to the soft strains of Land of Hope and Glory'. Page Twenty One
