English ancl Social Science Departments English classes at Bowen serve tor more than what their name implies. Besides the routine grammar, composition, and literature offered by this department it has also been the medium through which to Contact the entire parent body during the P. T. A. drives, and it is only by taking a required number ot semesters ot English that the students may enter journalism and dramatics. Social science, namely history, civics and economics, is ottered in a variety ot forms tor the socialogically minded student. Subiects covering ancient, medieval, modern European, United States and industrial history are among those offered at Bowen. Sixteen LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICS AND SHOP DEPARTMENTS TOP ROW: Miss Fogelson, Mr. Thomas, Miss Hitchcock, Miss McKinstry, Miss Shea, Miss Hastings, Miss Lewis, Mr. Cass. BOTTOM ROW: Miss Misner, Mr. Dylewski, Miss Franklin, Mr. Clark, Miss Schlueter, Mr. Raebig, Miss Bersteiri, Mr. Buercholtz, Mr. Brandenberg, Mr. Lauthers. Language, Mathematics and Shop Departments Latin, Spanish, French, German, and Polish classes provide Bowenites with ade- quate choice of a foreign language either as a required subject or as an elective. Brief as the lessons are they at least afford the student some knowledge of a language other than English, and acquaint him with the current international phrases. Mathematics, also thoroughly covered in Bowen's course of study, ranges from algebra through trigonometry and can be taken throughout the four years. Forge, foundry, auto, wood, electric, machine, and print shops, the backbone of the technical course, afford training in various trades and constitute the only vocational work taught at Bowen while teaching them to construct many projects useful to the school. ART, GYM AND OFFICE DEPARTMENTS Miss O'Donnell, Mrs. Yates, Miss Bond, Mr. Peters, Miss Draine, Miss Lipsky, Miss Wrench, Mr. Larsen, Mrs, Wall, Mr. Applegram. Art, Gym and Office Departments Bowen's art department includes free hand drawing, architectural drawing, and advanced art. Experience in designing, blue print, and poster making are at the dis- posal of the students. Artistic handicraft is also one of the proiects taken up by those in advanced art classes. Physical education, better known as baseball, football, basketball, swimming, track, and many other gymnastics, is besides being one of the most beneficial in the school the most popular. Keeping the body fit, these activities also teach good sports- manship and clean play. Team games in baseball, volleyball, and captain basketball keep the girls in trim and are requisites in obtaining a maior letter.

l CLARENCE M. BLUE 3511 jjlilemuriam We, the classes ot I936, wish in this small way to honor the memory ot Mr. Clarence Blue who passed away on May 30, 1935. During his seventeen years at Bowen Mr. Blue, in addition to teaching, held the position ot school treasurer and accountant.
