James Bowie High School qi, Szmms, Texas oe 'f '3,s ,A ' ' I j Af, fp' ff Hi t I fi , 2.4 X Foreword Bronson Alcott defined a good book as that which is opened with expectation, and closed with delight and profit. The Staff and Isincerely hope that the 1970 PIRATE meets these qualifications. W- amor Whether sloshing through steaming Asian jungles, breaking a snow trail on European mountains, or patrolling icy enemy seas, the men of the Armed Forces stand apart from most men. Yet, they are the same, sharing the same home and families and dreams and joys of other men. What makes these servicemen unique? Is it the selfless bravery in the face of black and terrible death? Is it a nobility that characterizes these modern-day knights in flak vests and helmets? Is it an abrupt manhood forced upon them on a dark and ominous night 'Z it 3. N, 'Y ' Q ia, twt pp 'Q . d! what they learn what it is to splatter some i fellpw human's guts on a tree or over the ground? Could it be the encompassing lone- liness coming of cold, hunger, despair, and the feeling that no one really cares? There are those who care. Just how much they are concerned could never be put into insignificant, puny words. Therefore, we ofthe 1963-1970 James Bowie Pirate staff dedicate this? yearbook to you, the men of the Armed For es, and thus we hope we can, in some in- fin' fely small way, show that our thoughts, dreams, and prayers are with each of you. 5 5 Z 2 TYPISTS Pat Hankins Frances Batchelor Adviser Mrs. Nelda Hawkins K Pirate Through co-operation and much hard work these are the ones BOYS' SPORTS EDITORS Jimmy Addy, Billy Lawing Mike Oliver GIRLS' SPORTS EDITORS H elen Taylor Janice Davis XX Q Q Q 3 Builders that helped to make the 1969-70 PIRATE a success. 1 K, ART EDITORS Iannett Holden Mary Wllson Wx ing' f Yr eee: of Tlx- W ,,,,,...,..-M., ,.-r- PICTURE MANAGERS Sharon Knight Terry Tidwell Deborah Clark AD MANAGER Becky Shaw CLASSES EDITORS Gaylon Smlth Doris Hazelwood s XX C onstruclion Engineers lb A RRR R RRR R fffiqkf' A A ew fsQ:QQ2 w 'K uw-. mu www-. , I B S Tag A , N AT? And one was hammered in the ground by many jolt and jar, some fragments have never been found, they flew away so far. They found a stack of tawny hair, some fourteen cubits high, it was the halfback, lying there, where he had crawled to die. They placed the pieces on a door, and from the crimson field, that hero then they gently bore, like soldier on his shield. The surgeon toiled the livelong night above the gory wreck, he got the ribs adjusted right, the wishbone and the neck. He soldered on the ears and toes, and got the spine in place, and fixed a guttapercha nose upon the mangled face. And then he washed his hands and said: I'm glad that task is done!
