Viking Knights In the winter of 1935 a Mr William Rea Heath at the time one of our phy slcal educatlon instructors came to a de c1s1on that if the administration and stu dents would get together and form some kind of an organization there would be a better relationship between faculty and mzation became the Viking Knights Smce that time there has been several sponsors of the Knights Mr Heath was the first and our present sponsor IS Mr Raymond E Vandruif also our school reglstrar In this the completed school year of 1949 50 officers of the knights are Art Carrlsoza President Joe Cle SETI vice presldent Al Barone secretary and Art Saxs treasurer Other members mclued B111 Kampmann Robert Morton Mel Buford Ed Bouldln Roger Ketelsle ger Raul Jimmez Denny Foreman Sam Salas and Bob Rogers A great deal of credit goes to Leonardo Vlllahermosa our Grisham our co captain and to Ray Rios Judge Besides their regular duties during school hours the Knights also sponsor dances and other activities for the school Applications are open to any and all stu dents who wish to Join and all members agree that this is a great organization O O l . i Y I . . ., . - . . 3 7 3 a ,n n - u u , . n e u u a , Q - 1 , , - ,. . , L - n . 1 y , Q n c , -, . . ! students. One of the most entertalnmg assemblles thls year was the Talent Show a repeat performance of last years great show Fea tured on the program were eleven students of R115 Hxgh School and two guest artlsts H1ghl1ght of the show was the Mr Rus con test Wlth Henry Carrlzosa w1nn1ng the t1tle of Mr R115 of 1950 Muslcal entertamers were Danny Hood Roy Mllton Charles Bowers and Bob Rogers That Old Black Maglc was the approprlate tltle of an act of maglc staged by Allen Grant a student at R115 To open the program master of cere momes Bob Str1ckland mtroduced Bob Rogers who played h1S own composltlons The 69er BOOg19 and To be or not to Cry1ng accompamed on the plano by MISS McKee the school l1brar1an Tenor Roy Mllton showed flne vocal tal ent by smglng Some Enchanted Evening He was accompanled by Mxss McKee Stu dents and faculty were presented w1th speclal surprlse vocahst Angel Montenegro who was a hlt as he sang Fool That I Am Angel a V1k1ng Alumnus IS now a student at East Los Angeles Junlor College To conclude the muslcal portxon of the program Bob Rogers Charles Bow ers and Roy Mllton got together on a SQFICS of muslcal numbers called Stompm at the Vlklng s Hall ' Bob and Charles furnlshed the plano muslc and Roy showlng flne muslcal ab1l1ty on h1s tenor sax played Three Llttle F1sh1es Encore numbers were The Huckle Buck and Cornbread and featured Roy on the sax and Bob on the 88 What It takes to be a maglcxan was shown by Allen Grant who put on flfteen mlnutes of the old rabblt out of the hat tr1ck Only ln th1s case Allen pulled out a chlcken Allen a student at Rus also d1d some rope trlcks and other acts The last but not least event was the Mr R11s Contest wh1ch was won by the popular Henry Carrlzosa who placed second 1n last vears event Howard Hlllman came back to take second place wlth thlrd place golng to Phllllp Poretta Rav Moody was awarded the best legs wlth Hlllman takmg the best back award Carrlsoza won the abdomen and chest contests w1th Tom Shelly anc' Rlchard Strlegal runmng close second and thlrd respectlvely The best arms went to Carrlsoza wlth Chuck Jackson close be hlnd hlm The most muscular also went to Carrlsoza as he walked awav wlth the tltle of Mr R11s of 1950 Judges for the contest wexe Babe Stansbury Wllbul Counts and George Redpath The show planned as an annual event was produfefl by Bob Rogers under the dlrectlon of Mlss Downs one of the Eng llsh teachers Effectlve llghtmg was plann ed bv Mr Law rence Brvant Q sound crew wlth Wayne Brownlee and Al Barone as chlef operators . .... y . . 7 9 H . . . ,, Y Y' ' , as . vs u u -1 1 ' 4 y U .. ,, - - - 1 ' v Y . , .
