A u s t r a 1 1 a Tasmania, the island state of Australia, may never be known or heard of by many, but it will always have a special place in my memories. Having spent a year there, this is how I see it: people who are fun-loving, friendly , and easygoing clean beautiful beaches and mountains kangaroos and koalas in zoos every sport imaginable from surfing to cricket meat pies in place of hamburgers Christmas in the summer — most schools are all girls or all boys and students wear uniforms the same t.v.’s. cars, and skyscrapers a country the size of the U.S. that's half desert Ne I’m happy to say J.H.S. has left behind its good name with the school I attended in Hobart. At the end of my year at H.M.C.. 1 was pleased to present my school with an American flag that once flew over the grounds of J.H.S. This flag had particular value because it once belonged to our past principal, Mr. Patterson, and Jacksonville should take pride in knowing that their flag was accepted with sincere friendship. Having been an A.P.S.er, I can now truly appreciate the meaning of the A.F.S. motto: Walk together, talk together, all ye peoples of the earth: then and only then shall we have peace. Ame Fi Ser 1971- Eco uses his 4© KicK of soccer 1 therlands rican eld vice 1972 S e n d A little more than a year ago. 1 had no idea 1 would ever go the U.S. Now it has already been six months ago since I arrived here. If I look back into those six months. 1 have to admit that they have been the best months of my life. It is amazing how much you can learn by visiting another country. By staying in the U.S. I have learned things about the U.S. that I would never have learned if I would have stayed in the Netherlands. Here you can meet all the people from all the different social classes, while the only Americans I met in the Netherlands were the rich tourists, who give you a toally wrong impression of the U.S. I there is one thing that has helped me very much in feeling myself at home here, then that is the friendliness I have received from all the people here both at school and in my host family, and 1 thank you all for that. s Eco ten Pas FLASH!
