Professor Aaron Parnell had retired from Mars Hill Col- lege where for years he had been an English Instructor. Without a doubt the sports pages were the most fascinating. Lewis Gurganus noted basketball referee had just announced the birth of his seventh child another boy. His wife the former Edna Earl Hemby made the statement that she was as excited as when she had her first. Walter Sabiston all time basketball coach at UNC had announced his retirement. He stated that wives and basketball dont mix very well. lt takes most of his time marrying and divorcing them. Following his retirement he will marry his sixth the childhood sweetheart of bygone years luanita Ketchum the widow from Wisconsin. They were to make their home in Iacksonville their home town. This has been the lifetime desire of both. Everett Waters featherweight boxing champion of the world will fight tonight in Madison Square ,Garden The price of the tickets will be more than they have been since l946 when Lewis met Conn. Mr. Waters manager is none other than Cecil Westmoreland. He s evidently dropped his nickname of Blanch- ard since then. Mr. Sanders uttered a sigh as he came across the fashion page. For lo and behold there was a new creation by the one and only Betty Petteway. And what had she created? It was a nightie that would send a man s blood pressure up a few hundred degrees. Miss Theldine Gillespie was modeling a topless hat and cr bottomless pair of evening slippers. In the page of advertisements was the notice of a traveling circus that had passed through. Owner and proprietor, Leonard Hitch and his wife, the mid- get of the show, Frances Batson, were literally rolling in the money. Mr. Hitch posed in one tent as the Midriff Man. Mrs. Hitch, when asked by the reporters for a statement only said, Well, I tell you. There isn't much to say. Q Y G16 GCLVJUZCLA 1 7' There he found everything in the hurly burly of a newspaper office. Miss Kellum was CLASS PROPHECY fCont1nuedl lt was the page of advertisements that caught Miss Kellum s eye There it was Rooms for rent at Walton s Rest Haven Upon research for the details of the ad they found it was none other than Donald Walton and his wife the former Betty Pearl Hemby who had realized their dreams of a huge home Just out of town There was another ad entitled Marthas Marriage Bureau Detail related that she would marry anybody to anybody for anything Miss Martha Westmoreland says that the Bureau works fine because it works for her Another ad attracted them Come to Marie s for the shampoo or permanent that satisfies And so MISS Marie Williams was the part time operator of a beauty parlor The other part of her time was taken up as Mrs Marie Kalamazoo in her cute little home with her cute little kids and her cute little hubby And of course all of the best pictures of Mr Sanders New York Times are made by none other than Harry Griffith His studio up the street is something you hear about but wait in line to see Successful photographer indeed A small write up in dark print caught their eyes Miss Nancy See noted American poet had Just been told that she will live to be ninety nine w1th no effort at all All of her poems seemed to show that she believed a little differently Lesl1e Russ creator of Russ Slips had Just turned his business over to his son At the time they are living in New Iersey Believe me his slips are plenty good Miss Mary Frank the laughing star of Laugh Awhrle Darling has Just been asslgned a new part in the play Crying Angel The former Miss Ina Gresham left by plane to Join her husband the noted engineer in London In a yellowed old paper was the mention of the wedding of Miss Hazel and Miss Lois Gurganus The ceremony was double Mr Sanders could find no further mention of them Miss Kellum came across an 1nterest1ng ad Do you want longer hair? If so try Hewitt s Halr Oil If not completely satisfied your money back Miss Myrtle Hewitt was well situated in the business Newspaper after newspaper they searched They dragged them off the shelves like dragging off years Mrs Iohn O Peacock the former Miss Ann Yopp was attending the Statewide basketball tournament in which her two oldest sons were all stars from lackson ville The doors to the divorce courts were slammed in the face of Miss Lois Rita Howell sixteen times divorced already Dear me Don t tell anybody but it looks like she s going to have to l1ve Wlth this one Little Miss Minnie Iustice was the founder of Minnie s Many Tourist Courts And so France gave back to the Unlted States the beautiful inter national star of the stage Miss Lillian Piner. She left behind her name in lights. The morning light filtered through the basement windows as Mr. Sanders sighed. That s every paper and we re missing three still. I wonder what happened to them? Oh baloney We ll probably never know. Get your hat. lm starving. Upstreet they decided to go to a joint they d neither been to before. From afar they saw in lights the word Gizmo. Solmehow the word struck a key note. Oh but the place was beautiful. From their table they ordered from a sweet waitress whom they discovered to be none other than another old friend Miss Marjorie Petteway. The man- ager came out to say a cheery word to them and who to their wondering eyes should appear but none other than Mary Stefanou. Same business eh Miss Stef? As always she was at home in the business of her lifetime. On the way home they decided for old time s sake they d stop in at Madam Frances place to have their fortunes told. She told Mr. Sanders that he was searching to find one missing person. She told Miss Kellum of her sad love affair and of an unsuccessful marriage. She predicted that Miss Kellum s only son Eddie would be coming home from the Navy to stay. Mr. Sanders interrupted- Yes we know and we hope but what we want to know is what happened to our old friend Margaret Rochelle? Hastily Madam Frances removed her veil and before them was none other than their jolly old friend Miss Margaret Rochelle. Lastly she said I predict that there will be a reunion of all our senior class in Iacksonville soon soon soon. LESLIE RUSS, BETTY PETTEWAY. 14 G J' A . - . , , , . I v ll - I 1 1 I I - . , .
