In 1980, the Jacksonville High School baseball team was great. The team took second in the County Tournament, and even went to the State Playoffs. In 1981, things were still good, but not quite as good 1980. The Eagles, under head coach Terry Abbott, finished the season with a 12-9 record. The team started the season with a co- championship in the AEA tournament, sharing the first place tro- phy with Sylacauga. Jacksonville stumbled some in the Area 11 race. And in the Calhoun County Tournament played at Anniston High School, Jacksonville beat White Plains 12-2 in the first round, but fell to eventual champ Oxford in the second round. The team's Most Valuable Player was senior John Selman, who graduated with the rest of his 1980-81 class. He also went on to sign a scholarship with the Jacksonville State University baseball team. 105
