THE FUTURE OF TELEVISION As we look toward the sky, a typical scene glides into view. Atop the skyscrapers which suggest a city and the cottages which dot the countryside, television is clearly represented. In the past decade the art of television has brought us closer to all parts of the world and to the people which live there. May the discoveries of the future bring to us, as television has so capably done .... peace, understanding, and joy, as we the future citizens strive for a better world in which to live. H. Kirkendall MELBRA THORNTON Mr. Thornton has been principal of Jackson High School for fourteen years. He is a friend to all and is liked and respected by everyone. He is always ready to help you, if you're in trouble, or just have a question to settle. His advice is always good. His numerous jobs around Jackson High, such as schedule changes, reports, and all of the current problems rests on his capable shoulders, and he always makes wise decisions. The students of J. H. S. believe and trust in Mr. Thornton, and carry these memories of him the rest of their lives. Carol Jean is Mr. Thornton's efficient secretary. Many of us don't realize it but the office staff works all year long even during our summer vacation. 4 CAROL JEAN JOHNSON KERMIT DAUGHERTY The superintendent of schools Kermit Daugherty, has more duties than most people realize. Besides seeing that Jackson High School system runs smoothly, he over-sees the entire city school system. He does what he believes is right for the students. JENNIE LOU MAPES ANNA NAIL Anna is secretary to our superintendent, Mr. Daugherty. She very capably takes care of all the reports for the entire school system. Jennie Lou graduated from J. H.S, last year. She takes care of the lunch money and reports besides her many other duties. 5 ARZELLA BAKER Teaches: English, Spanish; Conducts Essay and Poetry Contests HAROLD BROWN Teaches: Printing and Industrial Arts ELIZABETH BRUCE Teaches: Home Economics; Activities, School Banquets JUANITA DAVIS Teaches: English, Public Speaking MERRILL DAVIS Teaches: High School and Elementary Music; Activity, Glee Clubs DAVID FISHER Teaches: General Science; Activity, Coach of Jackson Reserves ROBERTA GRIMES Teaches: Typing, Shorthand and Bookkeeping; Activities, Osky Wow Business Manager and Sophomore Advisor ROBERT HARRISON Teaches: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Solid Geometry and Analytic Geometry; Activities, Projectors' Club DALLAS HAYDEN Teaches: Science and Arithmetic JAMES HISSOM Teaches: Instrumental Music; Activities, Band DONALD HOUSE Teaches: Biology and General Science Activity, Hi-Y Advisor RUTH HUTCHINSON Teaches: History and Geography RUSSELL JONES Teaches: Industrial Arts, Mechanical Drawing, Machine Shop and Cabinet Making; Activities, Ushers, Canvas Boys, Freshmen Advisor GEORGIA KAIL Teaches: Bookkeeping, General Business and Business Law JAMES KEADLE Teaches: Physical Education; Activity, Assistant Football Coach W. This is Mr. Wilson's third year here. CUSTODIANS The custodians of Jackson High School have a bigger job than most people realize. Besides their regular jobs, they are always willing to help any student they can. All students around J. H. S. should be more careful with paper, etc. , for this is no small job. Everyone thanks the janitorial staff. enior JOHN CASEY Glee Club 1,2,3,41 Eisteddfod I, 2, 3,4; Scholarship Team 1,2; Hi-Y 2,3,4; President, District and State Hi-Y President; Football Team Photographer 3,4. This year we elected four boys as our class officers. They were Dick Claxon, President; Jeff Reynolds, Vice President; Bob Lavender, Secretary; and Roger Exline, Treasurer. Eight boys in our class were members of the 1956 championship football team and our entire class took great pride in them. We would like to thank Miss Grimes, our fine class advisor for her help in making our sophomore party such a great success. All in all our sophomore year has been a most profitable one. And as we look forward to even better times in our remaining school years we can only hope that the future sophomore classes will have as much fun as we did. 45 FIRST ROW: Harrison, Lundy, Mannering, McElfresh, Kelly, Jones, Lambert, White, Whitten. Here we are! We finally made it! This year we are part of the Senior High and it has really been worth the eight years we worked to get here. We attended many parties and dances which we were not permitted to attend before as eighth graders. This year, for the first time, the freshmen were not allowed to join the Senior Band because it was becoming too large. The fun we had in the Cadet Band and at the Cadet Band Party well made up for it though, and we will get our chance next year. For our first important year in Senior High we elected the following officers: President, George Blanton; Vice President, Inez Washabaugh; Secretary, Steve Stevenson; and Treasurer, Charles Roberts. This has been a very eventful year and all of us are looking forward with excitement to our coming sophomore year. FIRST ROW: Tanner, Beckley, Walters, Brown, Jones, Yates.
