---OSKY WOW - THE OSKY WOW Senior Edition Published By THE SENIOR CLASS 1933 JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL JACKSON, OHIO ’33 OSKY WOW FOREWORD May this, the first Senior Edition of the Osky Wow ever published in Jackson High school, be a source of reminiscences of happy days, associations and worthwhile accomplishments. VOLUME TWENTY-TWO MAX WALKER—Managing Editor HELEN SCURLOCK—Associate Editor DEDICATION TO V. W. BARNES Who became a member of the high school faculty the year we became members of the student body, and who, as principal and teacher, has always helped us through our joys and problems with a ready word of congratulation or encouragement, the Class of 1933, sincerely dedicates this book. OSKY WOW FACULTY ’33 OSKY WOW SCHOOL PUBLICATION — 1933 — Osky Wow Staff The Osky Wow Staff For a great many years past J. H. S. has issued annually an Osky Wow, covering completely every phase of High School life. This year, owing to financia. difficulties, the complete book could not be produced. However, the Class of ’33 not to be daunted, sadly depleted their treasury and forthwith appeared the Senior Edition of the Osky Wow 1933. Only Seniors’ pictures appear in this book and we hope that every copy will be treasured as a memory book of our last year in high school. The Skeleton Staff The Skeleton, issued every three weeks, is our High School newspaper. It carries ail prominent school news and finances itself by means of advertising subscribed by Jackson merchants. Each year the members of the staff are permitted to edit and produce one of Jackson’s local newspapers. This year one issue of The Jackson Her-a'd was produced and many comments were heard on the fine publication that resulted from their efforts. The trillium, while young, is beautifully fresh and green. So were we when we entered high school in 1929. Everything was new and strange, yet we soon joined the activities of high school life with all the vim and vigor we possessed. A few of our boys went out for football and made mighty men on the “scrub” team. During the year an all-high school play, “Her Temporary Husband” was presented and one of our number, Imogene Jacobs, starred as Blanche Ingram. At the close of the year, we had a picnic party at Canter’s Caves. After three months of vacation, we resumed our studies as members of the Sopohomore class. During that year, we entered more fully into the activities of student life. Our football boys made the “varsity” and quite a number of our members joined the various clubs. To round off the year successfully and pleasantly, we again held a party at Canter’s Caves. Having passed all requirements, we returned to school the next year as Juniors. At last we were upper classmen and in a fine, new building. Our football boys became very prominent members of the squad, John Wilson, making the All-Southeastern as tackle. We were quite proud of their playing ability. In the middle of the year, our class play, “It Won’t Be Long Now” was presented successfully to an enthusiastic audience. One of our members, Florence Harper, brought honor to herself and her school by winning second place and a two year scholarship in the Ohio Council of Churches Prince of Peace Declamation Contest. How well we remember the day the telephone call came from Cleveland announcing her victory. The big event of the year for us all came in the Junior-Senior. All the year we had planned for it and could scarce wait for the opportunitv of playing host to the lordly Seniors. • 4 After three years of steady climbing, work intermingled with play, we reached the prominence of the Senior class. We are not dignified, but a happy, healthy, buoyant, normal group of young people able to work hard and to play hard. This has been our busiest year. The class work has been difficult. In addition, we have played a prominent part in athletics, school assemblies, and club programs. Eleven of our boys played football. Our team won the Southeastern championship. The Senior play “Green Stockings” was presented Friday evening, May 5 to a highly appreciative audience. Junior-Senior was the next event. All of us strutted around in our “glad rags”. Class Day arrived with many of the Seniors taking part. But of course all good things must end, so we had Commencement and Alumni. Turning again to the trillium we find it has grown and blossomed showing a three-way development, emblematic of our mental, moral and physical growth. Soon its petals will fall anil be blown in separate directions. As we, the class of ’33, shall separate, some here, some there, let us never forget— “Hope shall brighten the days to come, And memory gild the past.” OSKY WOW - Clubs HI-Y CLUB President-Freeman Jones Secretary—Loel Callahan Vice-President—Max Walker Treasurer—George Ridgeway The purpose of the Hi-Y is to create, ma:” tain and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character.
