A noisy clattering typing room and a quiet short- hand room have one similarity -- a studious concen- tration on the job at hand. Students in these classes are usually aware that the knowledge and technique gained here will benefit them for a long time. Mrs. Day, left, assists Jenise Nickey with a ifficult short hand phrase. Below, Mrs. McKinney observes her students' technique as they tackle an assignment. Bookkeepin Were it not for the bookkeepers, industry, busi- ness and government as we know them would soon collapse. Many of these same clerks and account- ants and record keepers probably gicked up their beginning knowledge in a high sc ool class such as this. Coincidental with the training of fine minds, the training of strong bodies takes a high position at Jackson Central High School. The development of body co-ordination, the increase of stamina, the will to win, and the character of fine sportsmanship, play the starring roles in the Physical Education Department headed by Mr. Britton--boys, and Mrs. Perry--girls. In connection with the physical education program, health is re- quired of the second-semester sopho- mores. Stressing personal hygiene and human anatomy, health is taught by Mr. Britton and Mrs. G. Day.

Agriculture As shown at right, Home Economi No, you're not going to practice diaper changing on me! Child care, social de- velopment, grooming, home management, foods, and sewing are just a few of the many topics covered in the Home Economics class at Jackson Central. Mrs. Day, ri ht, demonstrates proper taile settings. cattle raisin is among the many subjects cov- ered in the Agriculture classes. Others studied under the direction of Mr. Barbour are farm machinery, farm man- agement, various crops, and livestock. Industrial Arts With four years of shop offered, a student can study subjects as widely separated as carpentry and photography or as closely related as basic electron- ics and home wiring. Mr. Sander offers Don Gaskin some pertinent infor- mation concerning a mosaic table top. A plaster mold receives the combined attention of Mr. Himelick, Don Tudor, and Tom Moore as they discuss the next steps in its use. -15-
