SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY My friend, Kaye Gunn. a famous fashion designer and wife of a prominent Indiana University college professor. and I, Linda Clifford, author of the well known, widely read, Jokes fc Mealtime . are touring the United States in search of our old school chums. Our journey begins in Indianapolis, where we find Gene Wilbur Shaw Kennett, owner of the Indian- apolis Speedway, talking 'shop' with Marylyn Randall, who owns the Slaughter Stretch Speedway , located in Millersburg. Marylyn's three sons, Speedy , Flash , and Lightnin ', are well-known stock car drivers throughout the country. After talking with Marylyn and Gene. we decided to drive out to the Tee Pee for lunch, before con- tinuing our journey. Just out of curiosity. we asked the car hop who the owner of the Tee Pee was. Here she comes now! Why, it's Myra Worthman, and to think that she started out as a car hop ten years ago. Myra tells us that Charles Applegate. another old school mate, is now the owner of Charlie's Muscle Building School in downtown Indianapolis. After chatting with Myra for awhile, we decided to continue our journey. We boarded a plane for Miami, Florida. Before reaching Florida. we stopped many places along the way. We met Eddie Cline, owner of the Burpo brewery, vacationing in Georgia. He told us that Charles and Philip Smith have established a new Smith Brothers Cough Drop factory in Georgia. Eddie told us that Nancy Cusick, the blond bombshell of the beauty world, had just been crowned the queen of the Atlantic City Beauty Contest by Jim Bowman, whose occupation isjudging beauty contests. He also said that Jane Warfel, co-owner of Chuck's Supermarket was vacationing in Georgia. We decided to look her up, since we had two hours before plane time. Jane showed us the lovelorn column in the Daily Sun written by none other than Nancy Jackson. We also saw an advertisement for Margaret Ann Bardonner's Men's Turkish Bath , a very profitable business which she started some time ago. Oh, oh. the plane leaves in five minutes! We flagged a taxi to take us to the airport. It wasn't until we reached the airport that we realized that the hackie was Richard Gibson, another school churn. We didn't have much time to chat with Ric, but he did tell us that he read that Estelee Taylor had inherited quite a sum from a long lost uncle and was planning to establish a Lonely Hearts Club in the near future. On the plane on our way to the Sunshine State , we noticed that one of the stewardesses resembled a girl in our graduating class-Shirley Castor. Upon further inquiry, we discovered that it was Shirley! She asked if we'd like to see around the plane, When we got to the cock-pit. there at the wheel. piloting the plane, was James Spaetlie. At last he was able to fulfill his life's ambition! We arrived in Florida on a humid afternoon, and decided to refresh ourselves by taking a swim in Miami Beach. And who should be the head lifeguard? None other than Russell Noel. We also found a show in town consisting of Bill Gullion, Bill Fippen, Bill Sigler and Marcia McDole. It was billed as Three Bills and a Babe. Quite a show, if you have the time. Our Journey continued to Las Vegas where we found Bob Zeiss, owner of the Casino, directing his danc- ing girls, The Teasing Trio, consisting of Joyce Hunter. Judy Justice. and Sally Gibson. We also saw Keith McGill, a successful stock broker from New York, talking to Ernie Stevens, the doctor who keeps the dancing girls in good shape at the Casino. The star of the show is Barbara Rose La Rose Hartley. Bob tells us she's quite a crowd drawer. We must go on. It's California this time. We find all sorts of school chums here. First there's Sally Hale. the world champion lady wrestlerg Martha Smeltzer and her little red-headed children, some of Sally's most ardent fansg and Kathryn Nickey, Sally's own personal nurse. We decided it was time to starthome so we boarded a plane for Chicago. Did you know that Jim Night- enhelser now owns the Chicago Stock Yards and that Suzanne Burris was just elected President of the 4-H Clubs of America? They're both residing in Chicago. Phil Warfel is also the manager of Marshall Fields. Back in Indiana again we found Sandy and Bill Bishop happily married. They're raising those famous Hampshires just as everyone thought they would. In the southern part of the state there's Janet and Phil Etchison. Phil is coaching a basketball team consisting of his own little family. What a day that'll be when his team wins the State! And last but not least, there's Phil Johnson. a struggling football coach of the Central Eagles. still hop- ing for the County Conference. Ah, yes, it has been an interesting trip. We imagine many of you never thought your old school chums would be what they are, but that's fate, don't you think? 24
