Meinl, of flue CAM 0 1950 Enter ng fngh s nool means drfferent tlnngs tc varrous people To the 44 skep trcal fresnmen enter1ng lackson Central 1n the fall of 46 rt meant mak1ng new frrends and effectmg an adjustment to an entrrely 'IGW regrm of school work Mrs Recobs and Mr Scott were choset as sponsors and mrtratron day was survrved partly because of therr soltcttude Th hrghllghts of the year was a freld tr1p to Clncago where they found the wonders of the crty very allurtng Some say that certarn m mbers of the class had to be dragged bodrly from the subway and escalators when rt was tlme to start home Slnce all good thrngs end the class found that vacatron was over rn the autumn of l947 and they were back rn school A few recrurts were added but they were not de strned to stay wrth the class long Mr Ballff was rnvrted to be the mentor and for rea cobs was re elect d as sponsor Everyone rr school knew the theater party rn lndlana polrs kept the class out too late on a school nrght and the whole affal caused the spon ors some anxrous moments on the follow mg day Soon after rt was announced that all class partles were lo be held rn the burldrng The class began the thrrd quarter of therr hrgh school trarnmg rn hrgh sprrrts and low funds whrch they rmmedtately augmented by a llvely subscrxptron arrve for the Curtrs Publrshrng Company Mr Glenn who by thrs trme had taken over the helm suggest ed that they choose sponsors for the remam der of therr hrgh school career After the usual amount of elect1oneer1ng and brcker ma they declded to g1ve Mr Knapp a fllng as therr sponsor and to work wrth h1m you guessed 1t Mrs Recobs What w1th the concessron for ball gafnes the receptron and the play rt turned out to be a busy year fH9Cl1C would be more l1ke rtl Many strll vrew paper tulrps and wtndmrlls wrth repugnance the crepe paper drdnt fall and at last rt IJS over Some phases of The Babf Srtter lere too real to be comfort able but Reese drdnt turnble off the stage and Iva s france let Paul go unmolested As 1S probably true wrth all senrors the last lap took on added s1gn1f1cance wrth therr opportuntty at glvrng the n1nth graders the thrrd degree The faculty looked on the plans w1th drsdam the sponsors got more gray halrs but apparently no one suffered :xny permanent rnlury Soon all avenues of thought led to two eprsodes however Puttrng out an annual and plann1ng and fm ancmg a trrp were not to be taken ltghtly Aunt Polly got over the twrtters Huckle bury Fmn put away the grease parnt and they rolled up therr sleeves for work Each day 1t became a l1ttle more evrdent that at least some of them were becomrng rncreasmgly retrcent at partrng v1a Gradua tlon Day Fmally the sponsors rem1nded them rn no uncertatn terms that 1t was cus tomary to make plans for the last walk Were they growmg up? Well yes and no B111 strll grggled occasronally and Irm was wrrtrng letters to Walnut Grove rnstead of markrng out the o s rn hrs textbooks Many of them gave evrdence of much serrous thought and were slowly formrng plans for the future A glance at the fleld track or floor gave evtdence that the class had more than rts share of athletes Some were born leaders others wrll take thelr places rn the busmess world a few plan upon entertng the teach mg professton and strll otners wxll take thetr places as average crtlzens the backbone of socrety It was wrth deep regret that they saw several enter only to wrthdraw and enroll somewhere else but they were especrally sad to note that a few gave up and severed connectrons wrth school altogether It ts the earnest hope of the remamrng 33 that they wrll never have reason to be sorry that they drd not carry on P ge F ftee I C 1. . c .
