J zcativi '’omfi. tfis. This was the game which determined who would be the Class 4 A Region II football champions. Unfortunately Decatur won 21 0. The Raiders got 246 yards rushing to a Jaguar 22. Johnson closed the season with a 5-4 record, 2-2 in region play. The first Decatur touchdown came in the second quarter when the Raiders got 55 yards on 15 plays and one 12 yard pass. Decatur quarterback Benny Perrin scored from one yard out. Robert Lee kicked the extra point. Johnson was unable to move the ball and Clint Varnado had to punt. The punt went off the side of his foot and out of bounds on the Johnson 22. Decatur drove the ball to the end zone in three plays. Lee kicked again, and the Raiders led 14-0. Even though the Jaguars drove the ball from their own twenty to the Decatur 10 they lost the ball on downs and the Raiders drove it back 90 yards. Perrin passed 20 yards to Roger Plemons to score. Johnson and Grissom were even in number of first downs, but Johnson had 125 yards rushing and no fumbles, while Grissom had only 51 yards 234 rushing and lost one fumble. At the start of the fourth quarter Grissom drove to the Jaguar 16 yard line, but a fourth and eight pass attempt was battled down in the backficld by tackle Sam Alexander. Then, the Jaguars got possession of the ball and drove it 84 yards in twelve plays for the only score. When Cedric Brownlee crossed the goal line with 6:58 left in the game. On the extra point attempt, Sam Bucy juggled the high snap from center, rolled right, and hit Jimmt Finn in the end zone for two points.
