This year the Johnson Band received several outstanding awards. In addition to their perform- ances at all of the Johnson football games, the band and Flag Corps received excellent ratings at the Tri-State Marching Festival in Cleveland, Tennessee, where the majorettes were rated supe- rior. Johnson placed 15 members in the All State Band, received three recommendations at District Festival, three Superior ratings in concert and a Superior rating in sight reading at the State Festi- val held in Tuscaloosa. In May, the band entered the Six Flags Band Festival in Atlanta, where they were rated Superior. The Johnson Jazz Ensemble, pictured above, received Straight Superior ratings at the Birmingham Jazz Festival, Solo and Ensem- ble, and the Tullahoma Jazz Festival where they were awarded the First Place Trophy and $250. Jaguarettes The J. O. Johnson Jaguarettes is an organiza- tion of girls interested in dancing and perform- ing. They sometimes function as an arm of the administration by serving as guides or hostesses to the building. They dance primarily at various school functions including pep rallies, football games, and basketball games. Any girl with an overall C is eligible to join.
