MCJROTC The Marine Junior ROTC Unit has been growing each year since Johnson started. This year, approximately 145 young men and women com- prised the Cadet Clubs. The year's activities started in July when 50 Cadets helped a local industry run their family picnic. August saw the Drill Team start forming and the Color Guard pre- pare for the football season. During the fall, the Color Guard and Drill Team performed and ushered at the football games, the Rifle Team won 4 of 5 matches, money was raised for the annual formal Birthday Ball in November, and many other smaller activ- ities were held during and after school. In Octo- ber, Cadet Francis Daniel was presented the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement, during a formal ceremony in the auditorium. Winter saw the Drill Team preparing to defend all the championships won during the spring of 1974, the Rifle Team sharpening up to fire in the spring, the Color Guard and Drum and Bugle Corps holding a formal school flag-raising ceremony each Friday morning during Homeroom, and everybody finding out what it was all about. Spring sees Drill Team and Rifle Team compe- titions, National Military Trail Hike, week-long Orientation Visit to a large base, parade, awards, and the guessing game of who will be the Cadet Leaders for next year.
