THEME 6 DEDICATION 10 ADMINISTRATION 12 SENIORS 26 ORGANIZATIONS 74 FEATURES 98 SPORTS 114 JUNIORS UNDERCLASSMEN 144 ADVERTISEMENTS 190 5 FROM A NEW POINT OF VIEW Beneath us, beside us, around us — everywhere there is something that is free. Gifts lie within the reach of all who ore willing but to extend their hands to receive. Man, unable to see beyond himself, is not aware of these gifts. Those things for which there is no price are spurned by man — kicked to the side of the road as he hurriedly proceeds along the way. The complexities of human character, the landscapes of nature, the evidences of a modern culture — all are victims of neglect that are pushed into the background. Seeing these commonplace things is done in passing, not with any sense of ap- precation or realization of their im- portance. To bring these key objects into the foreground can be accomplished by looking at surroundings from a new point of view. Those sights which are free would create a treasure chest of pleasure. Then every face on main street would reveal a trait of human nature; the backyard, a certain beauty; and the dependable television set, a storehouse of mod- ern culture. Only through truly open eyes can one see or appreciate life as it actual- ly is. 9 MRS. KEMP HOUSE BALDWIN A scholar, a friend, a counselor. 10 HEADS MR. JUNIUS H. The reigning monarch became the Queen of Roses, the customary procession of floats evolved into the celebrated Parade of Roses, and East Carolina College Stadium sparkled with animation as the majestic Rose Bowl! Red became the dominant hue in the pre-game assembly honoring homecom- ing alumni. Corsages adorned the fall suits of football sponsors, and long- stemmed American. Beauties created a royal touch for the Queen ' s Court. Miss Freshman, Ann Lautares; Miss Sopho- more, Janet Farmer; and Miss Junior, Lynn Dodson acted as ladies-in-waiting for Queen Diana Hodges. White napkins by the thousands shaped the throne for the Rose Court as well as floats representing school organ- izations. Bustling down Evans Street in an antique Ford came Mr. and Miss School Spirit, Tom Duncan and Doris Phillips. Pink was painted on the cool cheeks of spectators by a crisp autumn wind sweeping the stadium. Band members entertained in the Tournament of Roses tradition with Music Hath Charms. Yellow roses achieved a meaning above all others as the victorious Phantom elev- en downed the Elizabeth City Yellow Jackets completing the eventful Home- coming at the Rose Bowl! ! 104 HOMECOMING Red, white, pink, and yellow roses blossomed into a spirited weekend as Homecoming ' s traditional ceremonies un- derwent a magical transformation.
