•A. The Greenville City Schools have experienced a very fine and vigorous growth over the past half century. This is because of the capable leadership of our administration, and of the fine support that the citizens of Greenville have always given to their schools. This year the Editors and staff of the TAU have chosen for the theme of the 1961 TAU, Green- ville, A Good Place to hiy§. Work, and Play. Through this edition we want to encourage our young people to plan to remain a part of Greenville in the years to come. Greenville needs you, and you need Greenville. May this, the 1960-61 TAU, bring back to you in the years to come many happy and pleasant memories. The Staff We are proud and happy to deiicdite MR. MAC- EMSKISMXIZXKXKM the 1961 TAU to Mr. Qeovgc Spencer McRovk. Posing for a family portrait. Although Mr. Mac has been with us only a few years, we have grown to love and respect him. His unselfish devotion to civic, church, and school responsibilities has inspiried us to lay firm foundations for our future. May he continue to enrich the loves of others, and may God ' s blessings be with him. Pictured Above is our modem school, the Junius H. Rose High School, one of the newest and finest schools in the state. These pictures give a panoramic composite of our school Staunch, firm, full of character, yet always yielding for the better interest of the student body and school— this is the administration and faculty of Rose High. A city is no stronger than its city officials, nor is a school any stronger than the strength of its administration and faculty. We think our school is very fortunate in having one of the best faculty-administrative organizations in the state. AdministvBition and 33ieulty 9 Administv3iiive Staff MRS. ELLEN L. LEON FR ANKLIN WILLIAMSON, III KATHRYN ELIZABETH WINCHESTER 53 Chss History We, the Class of 1961, have come to the end of our high school career; one which will always be filled with cherished memories. We entered high school as typical flustered freshmen. However, our new officers started us off on the right foot. Melinda Coleman served as President; Erskine Duff, Vice-President; Judy Tucker, Secretary; and Janice Bentley, Treasurer. As sophomores, we felt more secure and more at home. Our class officers were: Erskine Duff, President; Myrtie Moon Bilbro, Vice-President; Sara Webb, Secretary; and Jack Barnhill, Treasurer. We adopted The Old South as the theme for our Sophomore Dance. In our junior year we began to realize how time flies, and that we should make the most of each day. Larry Roberts was President; Bill Wade, Vice- President; Jean Crawford, Secretary; and Chappy Bradner, Treasurer. Junior-Senior was indeed the year ' s highlight. We chose the theme Hawaiian Festival to honor die graduating seniors. Yes, we finally reached the zenith-senior year. Bill Wade served as President; Ben White, Vice-President; Myrtie Moon Bilbro, Secretary; and Dallas Clark, Treasurer. As Seniors we sponsored the annual Christmas Program, and the student body gave gifts to the teachers ' lounges as tokens of appreciation. As we, the first class to have completed all four years at Rose High School, graduate, we leave behind many wonderful memories, experiences, and dear friends. Having learned much, we must now begin to apply it. It is with sadness, yet with the knowledge that we are really embarking on a new adventure, that we say Farewell. r CRAIG WINSTON WORTHINGTON ' DAN HUTSON WRIGHT 54 United States Post Office, Greenville, N. The first conference game, against the strong Tigers of Tarboro, ended in defeat, but the Phants emerged vic- torious from the next two engagements.
