The Career Enrichment Park: a new experience in education, is more commonly know as the CEP. This 1.5 million dollar remodeling project was made possible by the approval of a bond issue by the District 50 taxpayers. What was once the old, unappealing Westminster High School has been converted into a useful and popular center of a variety of advanced vocational and academic studies. The Center is composed of a five building complex, each building being referred to as a separate mall, providing an atmosphere of unity. The main school building is called the North Mall. ln this mall there is a garden level topped with the first and second floors. The areas of Business, Printing, and Photo Journalism take up the majority of the garden level. As we move upstairs to the first floor we see the revised office areas, the old Chemistry rooms madeuse of by those students interested in Horticulture. Other classrooms are used for such areas as the Nurse-Aid and DECA programs. The DECA portion of the first floor includes a mini-department store, where students are taught about merchandising. The old cafeteria is the school has become a student run restaurant, known as the Le Park , here the qualified and experienced chefs and food managers instruct the students in all areas of food occupations. This restaurant provides food services to all interested students, teachers and guests. The second floor of the North Mall was changed very little. Some classrooms were made larger to accomodate the Drafting classes, while the others are used for the academic subjects that are offered at the center. The Repair Mall is the new name given to the old industrial Arts Building. This area is where students learn all about repairing radios, televisions, business machines, appliances and recreation vehicles. The welding area is also in this building. The former Music Building has nicely housed the Building Mall. Vocational training is offered in cabinet making and other building trades. The Automotive Mall is located in the old school warehouse. ln this mall the students are trained in auto mechanics and auto body repair. Finally there is the District's Alternative High School which is called the South Mall. This mall is a place for students who were either dissatisfied or unsuccessful in the traditional learning environments. These students are enrolled in the Save Coop G, Open Doors of the Continuation programs. This new and exciting Career Enrichment Park is the result of many years of work. lt represents an interest which is shown in District 50 and all others involved to provide the students with the best overall education possible. f -,Hn 3
