ilu? 1? The capitol city of Denver was the center of CoIorado's rail network by 1890. Critics continued to complain that Denver was a city without reason for existing but the Denver and Rio-Grande proved them all wrong. While the city grows, the face of Denver is constantly changing as Urban Renewal is vastly altering the appearance of lower downtown Denver. Untouched by this demolition, the Daniels and Fisher tower remains in tact to remind us of our historical past. Travellers constantly registered surprise at what they termed Denver's solid progress despite all the discouraging circumstances. The crude log cabins and tents of the first years were soon replaced with frame houses and brick structures. The thrilling news of a gold discovery in 1859 along the banks of the Cherry Creek traveled with amazing speed in all directions. Within weeks thousands of prospectors were attracted to the Cherry Creek gold fields in search of their fortunes. As the seekers dug their first golddust, others were working hard to establish a town to be known as Denver City. Dreamers worked on a plan for a city with such refinements as electric lights, electric street cars, and telephones.
