The thrilling news of a gold discovery in 1859 along the banks of the Cherry Creek traveled with amazing speed in all directions. Within weeks thousands of prospectors were attracted to the Cherry Creek gold fields in search of their fortunes. As the seekers dug their first golddust, others were working hard to establish a town to be known as Denver City. Dreamers worked on a plan for a city with such refinements as electric lights, electric street cars, and telephones.
