"Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in
Throughout the centuries, the truth of the foregoing quotation has been
borne in upon us, but never more forcefully than at the present. During the war
years, we have seen, both negatively and positively, the tremendous importance
of unity and cooperation: negatively, we have heard of the horrors of war and
have known of some of its evils here at home, positively, we have known of some
heart-warming examples of cooperation, generosity, and unselfishness in order
that democracy and liberty might win in World War II. Since the war has
ended, we can appreciate the joy of peace. Going back through history, we know
that in all the major successes of our country, the spirit of cooperation and unity
has been fundamental.
In our own school, too, we have seen, through our classwork and various'
activities, that cooperation is essential. Although we are conscious that we have
sometimes failed to achieve complete harmony, yet we feel that fundamentally
the spirit of I. H. S. is cooperation. Accordingly, as we were discussing the merits
of various themes for our yearbook this year, we Finally agreed on "The Spirit
of Cooperation-the Spirit of I. H. S.,', which the reader will find floating through
the pages of our 1946 Annual. -
The year of 1945-1946 has been a good one for us at Ithaca High-thanks
to the Spirit of Cooperation! Let us always maintain this spirit in our dealings
with others. Further, may we all realize that, as we are the future leaders of
America, it is our responsibility continually to improve our ability to work and
live together in harmony with our daily associates and with our families, and, on
a broader level, we must see that the spirit extends to national and international
living so that the men to Whom we have dedicated this Annual will not have
died in vain.
