Fred Woodward ri M S 1 Y- Pa ' it .'i'S-1 fx A ' JjmPena M This year the varsity had a very inexperienced team with only four seniors on the squad. Jim Pena was the number one varsity runner. Jim had a season best of 15:06 in the class 4-A Champion- ship meet. Jim also made the MVAL All-League team by placing fifth in league finals. Other outstanding varsity runners were Rex Bar- ber. Fred Woodward and Jeff Youngsma. Mark Lima and Sky Adgie were the other members of the varsity team. Running junior varsity were Jeff Cox, John Brooks, Ted Barker, and Greg Bauhofer. The frosh-soph team was lead by Javier Garibay. Close behind Javier was Miguel Munoz, Nathan Douglas, Brett Delehoy and Rob Winovich. Both the varsity and the frosh-soph team placed third in the league meets. Stacy Bolivia was outstanding for Irvington until a leg injury put her out of competition. Tina Martin made the MVAL All-League team by placing sixth in the league finals. By placing sixth, Tina then quali- fied to move on to the class 4-A Championship meet. Cathy Kellogg, Top row, Coach Boternbrood, Tammy Lerch. Varsity Irvington volleyball was at its finest this year. The team won the MVAL Championships with a 6 and 1 record. They de- feated American and Mission in the Shaughnessey Playoffs to earn the right to represent the MVAL at the NCS Cham- pionships at Cal-State Hayward. Irvington also dominated the MVAL with 4 first team all-league selections--Vickie Ebbler, Mary Giovannoni, Terrie MacDonald, and Tammy Lerch. Margie Hay earned 2nd team all-league honors. Cathy Kellogg, Cassandra Clerkley, and Nikki Winovich played outstanding throughout the year in the super team effort. J.V. lrvington's J.V. team also won the MVAL Championship with a 6 and 1 record. This was xl will-Q 'Fixing' ta the second year in a row that has happened. Leading the team to victory was Michelle Brown, Cheryl Cano, Rena Wack, Barbie Mac- Donald, and Veronica Mitrick, all Sophomores.
