"A Revolution for Independents"
was the theme of Residence Hall
Week 1969, but a better slogan
might have been, "Show Them."
And from March 23-29. the resi-
dences did just that.
This was only the second year
Iowa State has held a Residence
Hall Week. But the event has
come far in two years.
The week began at a convoca-
tion which included tappings for
residence honoraries and the se-
lection of Joyce Frederick as Resi-
dence Hall Week Queen. It con-
cluded with two concert perform-
ances by comedian Bill Cosby.
Cosby combined his musical
ability with his famous Cor infa-
mous? sharp wit. His talent for

sifting humor from daily life
caused continual audience laugh-
ter. Co-starring with Cosby was
songstress Rhetta Hughes. Few
performers can match the spar-
kling enthusiasm and emotion she
packed into each song.
Sandwiched within the week
was a carnival of residence-spon-
sored game booths, a car rally. in-
tramurals, and open houses.
Was it a success? The answer
lies among the 650 visiting high
school students and 10,000 people
at the concerts and the 2,000 car-
nival goers.
But Hgures don't always meas-
ure triumph. Any success of Resi-
dence Hall Week was a result of
residence members' vitality.
