HAWKS’ NEST 1961 IOWA PARK HIGH SCHOOL IOWA PARK, TEXAS FOREWORD It has been our goal to compile a concise and enjoy- able record of the 1961 School Year for you. We hope that as you leaf through this book you will relive and recall many gay times. It is our sincere wish that throughout the lives of each of you that this year, 1960-1961, will be remembered as an outstanding and profitable one. ANNUAL, STAFF EDITOR, Patricia Clements TABLE CONTENTS I. INTRODUCTION II. DEDICATION III. ADMINISTRATION IV. SENIORS V. JUNIORS VI. SOPHOMORES VII. FRESHMEN VIII. PERSONALITIES IX. ORGANIZATIONS X. SPORTS XI. ACTIVITIES XII. SENIOR SECTION XIII. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL The 1961 Hawks' Nest staff dedicates this volume to MRS. AUDRA TANNER beloved and respected teacher of English and Spanish. Cheerfulness and thoroughness have always characterized her work in the class- room, creating an ideal atmosphere for learning. We can never forget her vivid presentation of grammatic principles, nor her loving and enthusiastic treatment of literature, especially poetry. She has made us see beauty which we never suspected could exist in a mere printed line! Being a perfectionist, Mrs. Tanner makes us work diligently; but we are better students for her training and we thank her for it. When we have earned praise, she has praised us; when we have deserved punishment, she has disciplined us; when we have been confronted with problems, she has listened to us with understanding. Always in command of any classroom situation, she is ever the ingenious teacher, seeking ways to secure the students' interest and to inspire them to seek greater heights. For her devotion to learning and for her dedication to teaching, we take this means of showing our appreciation and gratitude to Brownie Tanner. MRS. AUDRA TANNER As you reminisce through the pages of this annual, I sincerely hope you have pleasant as well as inspirational memories. May your experiences in the Iowa Park School enable you to meet your life problems with a spirit of certainity and a will to conquer and an education preparing the way for a useful and satisfying life. To each of you, think and act for yourself in a Christian and democratic way, being always alert of world affairs, striving to be of service to your creator and humanity. To The Students of Iowa Park High School: This Hawk's Nest will review for you what you will consider one of the golden years of your life. May I congratulate this fine senior class for its accomplishments. As years go by, never forget that you represent your school and the principles for which it stands. For your school, community, state and nation, you are the leaders of tomorrow. May I congratulate the sponsor and staff members of this publication. Their unselfish and tireless efforts have been responsible for such an excellent yearbook. Sincerely, James E. Elms, Principal W. F.
