ACT I. , SCENE 2 Sde - ddiade-nta ai% During the week of Sept. 27 - Oct. 1, 1954, all of the Hawks center their activities at the Texas-Okla- homa Fair. Especially do the seniors and juniors welcome Fair Week because it enables them to earn the major portion of the money they need for class activities. This is an eventful year for the juniors because they move their stand from the Exhibit Building to the main drag. The juniors of 1954-'55 will never forget that they helped build the new stand and were the first to occupy it. The Senior Stand is ready for business. A senior crew takes a break. The Junior Stand is under construction. The Junior Stand is completed. 8 Mr. Vaughn receives the Sweepstakes award for the band. After dropping the first two games to Electra and Valley View, The Hawks won a glorious victory over the Burk Bulldogs on September 24. In regular conference play, the Hawks celebrate Homecoming on October 29 by winning over Henrietta 32-20. Although no other win is chalked up during the season, our boys keep up their fighting spirit and acquit themselves well in each game. Donnie McManus and Gerald Combs serve as co-captains for the season. When the All-District selections are revealed, Gerald Combs has the honor of being chosen a defens- ive back. Receiving honorable mention are Lloyd Klinkerman, end; Fred Lewis, tackle; and Harvey Klinkerman, quarterback. Showing plenty of hustle and talent, the junior high football team wins five out of an eight-game schedule in which each of four opponents is played twice. At the end of the season, letters are awarded Jimmie Banks, Jim Barbour, Leslie Beavers, Malcolm Berry, Lee Holloway, Deryl James, Don Roy Klinkerman, Donald Mundt, Jim Paris, Jimmie Pinson, Bobby Redin, Louie Reed, Gene Shawver, and Michael Laible, manager. Due to their inexperience, the girls are unable to win a game, but they make a creditable showing, proving to their fans that they will be serious contenders in the district next year. The volleyball teams, both A and B”, have a most successful season. The A team wins all of its prac- tice games throughout the season, defeating twice the teams from Valley View, Holliday, Burkburnett, and Electra. At the district tournament in Chillicothe, held to determine the championship of the district, our girls lose to Holliday in a hard-fought struggle. This was done in order that the annual might cover all of the happen- ings of an entire school year. In this new venture, the Annual Staff has been greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm and cooperation displayed by the students, the faculty, and the administration. As you thumb through the pages of this book, we hope you feel that your patience has been amply rewarded. The Staff wishes to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Chauncey Weiler of Iowa Park for his interest in the book and for his generosity in furnishing us with many pictures. Without his cooperation, the picture coverage for this annual would have been incomplete. To our advertisers, boosters, and subscribers, whose financial help made the publication of this book possible, we wish to express our sincere thanks. THE ANNUAL STAFF Monogha n Appliance Co.
