Page 19 The POLYSCOPE 1928 Senior Class History In the fall of 1924 a representative group of Iowa Falls youth, ninety-nine in number, entered the Iowa Falls High School in the Freshman class to gain knowledge not only thru book-learning but also thru practical experience. At the start of our high school career the following ofiicers were chosen: President, Robert Weldeu, Vice President, Mary Reppg Secretary and Treasurer, Clifton Ford, Class Advisor, Miss Fuller. To represent us in student goverment otherwise the Student Council, Vern Newton and Viola Smith were elected. We took part in social and athletic activities to full enough extent to show that good developments were possible. The second year our number had dwindled to eighty-three but our ambitions were not lessened. To head the class the following officers were picked: President, Vern Newtong Vice President, Clarence Tresemerg Secretary and Treasurer, Madaline Coxg Class Advisor, Miss Schlue. The Student Council Representatives were Robert Weldeu and Elinor Cobb. This year our part in school life grew and we were represented in practically all activities. The next year we entered the Junior Class as upper classmen with our number shrunk to sixtyesix but still going strong: Our ofhcers were: President, VVilbur VVindeekerg Vice Presi- dent, Walter Mullane Qthe first semester-J, and Doloris Fiete fsecond semesterj 9 Secretary and Treasurer, Robert VVelden. The Student Council Representatives were, Gordon Rosenberg and Doloris Fiete and the Class Advisor was Miss Soper. In athletics and other events we again look an active part. This was a year of many social affairs as there was the Junior-Senior party, the Senior-Junior party and the Junior-Senior Banquet which were all successful. Then, last but not least came the Senior year whose arrival is welcomed but whose departure is regretted. The officers for the year were: President, Howard Capwellg Vice President, Robert VVeldeng Secretary and Treasurer, Viola Smithg Class Advisors, Miss Trindle and Miss Soper. The Student Council oHicers and representatives were President, Vern Newton, Secretary and Treasurer, Doloris Fiete, and representatives, Grinnell Oswood and Zelpha Derbyshire. This year it may be said the class headed all athletic and social organizations. Some of the outstanding events were: Senior Drive, Junior-Senior Banquet, Class Day, then Commencement and high school life is finished. She has been a member of the team for three years and our loss thru her graduation is a big one. PATTY MCCLURE Does Patty shirk? No l l ! She is i11 tl1e game every minute. Patty was the unanimous choice for captain for next year. We feel sure that under her leadership 1ve'1l have a hard Iightin' team. ESTELLA GROOTERS Stell',, the dependable. 'Twas a good forward that could get around her. We feel sure that she deserves no less than a place as All State guard. Estella is another girl lost by graduation. ' Page 47 The POLYSCOPE 1918 A A ev wwf we A DOROTHY SMITH At center or at guard we could always depend on Dorothy to give all she had. Graduation takes Dorothy, foo. MILDRED DEHLA We could always count on Mickey to make foul shots even if the bank board was loose. Judging by this year's success we know shc'll be a crackerjack next year. ELIZABETH MARK This is Lizzies' first and last year. She surely did keep her opponents from making baskets. Elizabeth graduates this spring-her place at guard is going' to be a hard one to fill. ' GOLDENA KLOPP Another guard and a mighty fast one-fighting from the first to the last second. She too is lost by gradua- tion. Page 48 The POLYSCOPE 192.8 e so lf s -H mime o- 2 F Games VVellsbnrg Qtherej December 13, 1927 Our girls piayed their first game of basketball with Wellsburg. They had two new players to break in so the score indicates that with a little more experience they could have won. The score was 9 to 14 in favor of Wellsbu1'g. ' Whitten Qherej This was the first game played on the home floor and we met with more success this time and defeated Whitten 23 to 14. Eldora Cherej January 11, 1927 Iowa Falls and Eldora met with the same old spirit of rivalry. Eldora was not allowed a single field basket throughout the game. The score was 23 to 5. MeCallsburg C herej McCallsburg came, an undefeated team, but they went home with their record broken. 1. F. downed their team by a score of 17 to 12. Hampton fherej Hampton eame here determined to win but I. F. had the same determination. Evidently a little stronger because the game ended, after a real battle, with a 12 to 10 score in favor of I. F. Eldora Ctherej This game was a little better than the preceding one, but it still was none too fast. Spencer 's iield baskets was the outstanding feature of the game. The score stood 27 to 15. Wellsburg Cherej The girls went into this game to even things with WellslJu1'g a11d fought to the finish. The score stood 17 to 19, but it was in WVellsbnrg's favor so the account is still lopsided. We 'll settle with them next year. Hampton ftherej VVe traveled up to Hampton, and I. F. put up a good fight, but with Patty and Goldena unable to play. it was too much and Hampton won with a seore of 19 to IG. Hardin County Tournament On the morning of March 9, I. F. played Owasa in the first 1'ound of the County Tourna- ment. The game ended with a 26-6 score in favor of I. F. In the second round I. F. met VVhitten. This game was a little more exciting. It too, ended in favor of I. F.-16 to 11. This brounght the team to the finals. The championship game, played between I. F. and Eldora, was won by I. F. with an 18 to 12 score. By this victory the team not only won the 1927-28 trophy, but also the three year cup which has been in the possession of I. F. for two consecutive years. Sectional Tournament The Girls' Sectional Tournament was held in I. F. March 22 to 24. I. F. drew a bye in the first round and Wellsburg for the second. This game was one of the battles of the tournament. Both teams were playing good hard basketball. At the half the score was 11 to 10 in favor of I. F., but the game ended with a. 14 to 18 score in favor of Wellsburg. Wellsburg went on thru the tournament and won second place in the State. r Page 49 The POLYSCGPE 1918 -1 . - .-- ful scalar M. - .1 Calendar MARCH Thurs. 1-Beginning on this date and for the rest of the week is the Boys' Sectional B. WHY I FLUNKED IN HISTORY I thought-St. Bernard was a dog. Carthage was Cartilage. Joan of Arc was Noah 's wife, Ellie River was in Mexico. Monks had tails and lived in trees. Athens was in Georgia. Guilds were what a fish breathed through. La Salle was an automobile. The battle of Brandywine was fought between liootleggers and hi-jaekers. I also slept in class. Now history is repeating' itself-I'm taking it over again. Seems to me that Mother nature has provided for every contingency. VVhat prompts that nloral reflection? Look at the way she has placed our earsg yet 1,000,000 years ago. she did not know that we were going to hook glasses on them.
