DEDICATION A steady growth in the prestige and facilities ojf Iona College has spanned its young history. This progress has not been attained without con- siderable effort and occasional sacrifice. Behind much of this effort is a group, the Board of Lay Trustees, whose members act as a liason between the college and general public and provide Iona with an experienced counseling group on busi- ness matters. Further assistance is rendered by them in procuring funds for the development program of the College as well as for specific capital improvements, scholarships, endowments and other purposes. In maintaining and encouraging the ideals and spirit of Iona College, the Council sponsored donations to the Iona Blood Bank and supported the intramural athletic program. One of the less pleasant tasks that the Council undertakes is the effective regulation of the campus parking problem. Freshman representatives: Richard Cummins, Ronald Cca, and Frederick Abston. Its three-fold purpose is to instill Catholic ideals into everyday life, to promote the spirit of cooperation between Catholic colleges and to apply Catholic teachings to the college curricu- lum. Here on the campus the Federation has sponsored the daily Rosary, noontime recitation of the Angelus, and. during Lent, daily distribu- tion of the Holy Eucharist. In addition, planned tours to Europe and Mexico were made available to Iona collegians through the efforts of the Federation. N.F.C.C.S. LEGIO ll.tRI.lK Original Praesidium of The Legion of Mary: James Taluney, Ray Shottcr, Joseph Schick, At Saltier. The Legion of Mary, founded here only two years ago, has made a great influence on the campus. The Legion is composed of praesidia which perform separate functions under the gen- eral direction of a Curia. Our Lady of Iona Praesidium, as it is called here, belongs to the Westchester Curia. Two of the projects spon- sored by the Legion this year were to help or- ganize continual spiritual adoration on First Fridays and to encourage more Iona students to receive Holy Communion at noon time. IMG BIIOTIIE S The Iona College Chapter of The Big Brothers was brought to the campus four years ago. In that time it has steadily expanded and in this current year has been espe- cially successful. Using Christian charity as its cornerstone, the Big Brothers strive to guide young boys along the path that will develop them into useful and wanted citizens. This is accomplished by giving companionship, under- standing and above all, practical lessons in good, whole- some living to youths who are on the verge of becoming undesirable juvenile delinquents. John Kupin, a psychiatric social worker, speaks on Juvenile Delinquency Origi- nates in the Home. KNIGHTS OF TARA John Mullen, Treasurer, and Robert Lundry, Secretary. BRO. ANTHONY CLENNON Moderator During the 1957-58 season the Tara Knights Society has once again lived up to its motto: āLet friendship flourish in good deeds. The Knights, which is the oldest social and service organization on the campus, have as their main purpose the promotion of the ideal Christian social organization. Members are elected from those who have already proved their spirit and interest in Iona by active service in two or more cam- pus activities. Four of the worthy projects that the Knights undertook this year were: The Welcome Home Dance, which initiates the social season; a con- test for an Iona Fight Song; the Annual Winter For- mal; and Orphans Day, a day in which orphans from local institutions are given the run of Iona's campus. At the Waldorf The Welcome Home Dance at Clcn Island Casino. One of the most spirited organizations here at Iona, the Gaelic Society is a member of the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Council of Irish Societies. As a member of this Council, our Irishmen coordinate with other member clubs to sponsor several cultural and social affairs with a Gaelic flavor during the year. Socially, their highlight of this year was the Annual Irish Night held at All Hallows Institute on March 8. Athletically they again fielded a Gaelic football team to compete with St. John's, Fordham and Manhattan. The Annual Irish Night ' c Society Officers: Brother C.
