Senior Football 'GX Mac on his way to a touchdown. IOLANI-25 MCKINLEY-14 The Crimson Tide, making their 1948 debut, scored an impressive 25-14 victory over the McKinley Tigers. A determined Iolani eleven, well drilled and well condi- tioned, outclassed the prep champions of 1947. The Red Raiders blocked with pre- cision and tackled viciously. The Nuuanuans took a 13-7 lead at the half, Han taking the first touchdown across on a 2 yard smash and a 10 yard Hoater pass from Napoleon to Ho capping a 68 yard drive for the sec- ond. In the second half with the score 14- 13 in favor of McKinley, McKillop took a reverse from Napoleon and neatly sidestep- ped and outsped the Tiger secondary to go 35 yards for a touchdown, thus enabling Iolani to take a 19-14 lead. Through participa- tion in the varied physical program, the students cultivate the qualities of sportsmanship, fairplay, and teamwork. Carried through into later life these basic qualities of Christian character will make us better citizens of the community and the world. Education without common sense and phys- ical health would be incomplete and lacking in vitality. Here at Iolani, we have the opportunity to grow in Wisdom and stature , and in favor with God and man. Iolani opened the game with a powerful running attack and scored after four minutes of play with Napoleon carry- ing the mail over on a 9 yard end sweep. Six minutes later an interception setup the second Raider marker, Han climaxing the 46 yard drive with his 4 yard scoring plunge. But Farrington's offense broke loose in the third quarter. With Kahoonei, their passing wizard, throwing strikes to his receivers and Garcia ripping off consistent gains, the Govs racked up three quick touchdowns to go ahead 19-12. Then they dug in to stop Iolani's desperation drive in the dying mo- ments of the game which found the Raiders just one scant yard short of a touchdown and a possible tie. Seto on his way for a big gain. ' 5 . 1' -- -Y IOLANI-26 ROOSEVELT-6 Playing headsup football enabled Iolani's spirited eleven to register its second straight victory at the expense of the Roosevelt Rough Riders. In the first half, Han re- covered a blocked punt in the end zone, McKillop intercepted a pass and scooted 71 yards to score, and Hanchett caught a Roo- sevelt fumble in mid-air and raced 22 yards to pay dirt as the Nuuanuans led 26-6 at the half with Han converting twice from place- ment. The second half was even until the last Z4 seconds when Han squirmed 24 yards over tackle for the last tally. The Raiders played a methodical waiting game, letting the Riders make the move and then pouncing on them for the win. V, ry .14 sv-Kg:-,N Ripper rips through the Gov's line. IOLANI-0 KAMEHAMEHA-20 Using their superior weight to great advantage, the 1948 Champions of Kam dis- played power to defeat a plucky Iolani eleven, 20-0, on a wet and slippery turf. Crippled by the loss of Han and Almadova through injuries, the Crimsons played a waiting game, punting on third downs. But the breaks didn't come their way this time. Without Han, Iolani's running attack bog- ged down and the slippery ball made pass- ing difhcult. Iolani's staunch line played a stubborn game, yeilding ground grudgingly. Although outplayed, the Raiders were far from being outfought. They made two bril- liant goal-line stands in the third period to win the plaudits of the
