Time to stand in line, wait to sign (last name, first name, mid- dle initial) time to join the crowd . bump shoulders, (together among two thousand) time to mingle, get acquaint- ed (from handshake to hearty slap on back). Time to make friends. 6 7 8 • • .• ajvwi V' Timt‘U WITH TIME TO SPARE I__L Studying can be boredom and grind, but spare time spent in earnest term-report research, or in redoing a lab experi- ment, will often produce rewarding results. This may be the time to perfect your modern dance rou- tine. or to participate in a kaleidoscope of extra-curricular activities aimed at varied interests. Perhaps you spare time to give of yourself, to help under-privileged children learn how to sing or to raise school spirit to its peak. Whether your extra time is productive, or a relaxing af- ternoon with your hula hoop -its yours to spare at I.H.S. TIMETO HOPE. . . There are cheers you give in unison Go. Go. Gel 'em. Gel 'em. (he's running all the way!) Ug. Ug. (a fumble in play) when all voices in grandstand suddenly mingle as one. Lightning reaction that envelopes you at ?0-yd. line, or during suspenseful grid court announcements. There are private cheers earning your first A' on book report. transferring out of swimming class first period, getting your name on honor roll, or having a substitute teacher in English. Blissful satisfaction that makes the clock tick faster and dims memories of past days spent in tears. 11 TIME TO CARE It 's a rainy day and you've just caught a cold. An unsatis- factory progress report seems to be burning a hole in your pocket. You get your sloppy joe on bread instead of buns. The student body refused to stamp X” in the box by your name. Your P.E. class volunteered you to be exercise leader! Someone in the office wants to see you at once . Your steady date has suddenly left you a trifle unbalanced. You forgot to turn your service points card in! Days like this make you feel you should have been Zhe £a$t of the Mohicans instead of an Inglewood High Sentinel. 13 14 UNTIL TIMETO REMEMBER Remember when the burly football captain kissed the soft cheek of newly crowned grid queen. Remember when you really flipped at all school sportsnight. Remember pizza feeds, dances, tests. Remember studies, buddies, cheers and tears. Remember all sifting grains of Time. 15 A TIME TO PAY WE DEDICATE OUR MRS. JANIS GUENTHER It is rare indeed for a teacher who has spent but four short years in a school to receive the honor of an Annual's dedication. The rarity in this case is Mrs. Janis Guenther who. by her involvement with the students of I.H.S from the first day she arrived on campus, has truly earned this dis- tinction. A credit to her profession. Mrs. Guenther's will- ingness to help her students extends beyond the classroom hours. She has the ability to communicate with the stu- dents on their own level, but without losing any respect due her as a teacher. Educated in both the United States and Germany. Mrs. Guenther received her B.A. from the University of Munich. Besides teaching German and world history, her extra curricular” activities include Senior Class Adviserand German Club Adviser. Mrs. Guenther leaves I.H.S. this year and takes with her the affection, respect, and admiration of all who have come in contact with her. Auf WiedersduH. Frau Guenther. 16 TRIBUTE YEARBOOK TO: Loyally and devotion to your school is a phrase usually associated with students, yet these are the very qualities which make Mr. Louis Below so deserving of our recogni- tion. As a print shop instructor. Mr. Below s only real duty” at I.H.S. is to teach. Not content to do an exceptional job of that, however, he also puts in untold hours of his own time working on printing St Catlinda and other school publica- tions. A member of I.H.S. faculty for seven years. Mr. Below graduated from Stout Institute in Wisconsin, and earned his M.A. from L.A. State College. He brings a wealth of knowledge to his students and a wealth of friendliness to all. It is our pleasure to honor you. Mr. Louis Below. MR. LOUIS BELOW 17 SENIORS TIME TO LAUGH po said we'd never be tops? less and unity which proved that ember rally voices that had n«?ver ng voices never more off key? ds at the pizza feed, blinking eyes at Remember the slippery pig that n Uhfclerclassmen got out of your way? speculation about who would make the r. Remember fearful anticipation: when the hand holding! your number three pencil wouldn’t stop shaking; when you had no experience” but were very willing”-, when that” envelope came in the mail? Remember how you couldn’t wait to graduate, but how you cried when they played Pomp and Circumstance?” . Caroling on Senior Square, hop scotching, and winning the spirit stick are typical memories never-to-be-forgotten. Activi- ties and functions such as Sentinel Daze. Second Annual All-School Conference, noon movies. Principal's and Presi- dent's Forum, and advisory committees helped to accom- plish better communication. Various by-law and constitutional amendments, pro- posed and passed, clarified our constitution. Necessary and important changes, such as the amendatory process to our constitution, were made possible through these amend- ments. Voter registration of students was simplified also. This semester's Student Council obtained a new foster child. Pedro Leon Buitrago will now be a part of Inglewood High School. Supporting a foster child and other activities, such as the Red Cross, affords Student Council and the other members of the Student Body the satisfaction of helping others. This semester's Student Council truly did a commend- able job in representing and carrying out desires of the stu- dents of Inglewood High School. JOHNEMSHWILLER Commissioner of Activities MARK B. This past summer Mark Ginsburg had the responsibility and opportunity of representing Inglewood High School and our country in Cul-des-Sarts. Belgium. While in Bel- gium. Mark stayed with his foster parents. Dr. and Mme. Georges Andre. The Andres have three children — Georges-Marc. Barbara, and Carole. Mark's father. Dr. Andre, is the Burgomaster of the town. Cul-des-Sarts is on the border between France and Belgium and has a population of approximately 1.000 peo- ple. Mark describes the teenagers there as being a great group of kids. He also adds. The teenagers seem to be a lot less concerned about the social pressures that most American teenagers are worried out.” Mark points out that there is less dating done in Belgium than in the United States. However. The teenagers have a lot of fun even though they rarely have a car at their disposal or have an organized affair to attend. Europe is not dull or lifeless by any means.” While in Belgium. Mark participated in the town's festival, which lasted four days and he attended a 24-hour car race in Francorchamp. Also. Mark and Georges-Marc traveled to nearby Paris and loured there for three exciting days. While in France. Mark witnessed an endurance motorcycle race. Mark Ginsburg learned that it is truly a small world with A.F.S. 64 MARK GINSBURG American Field Service Student to Belgium ’WALK TOGETHER, TALK TOGETHER, OYE PEOPLES OF THE EARTH, THEN AND ONLY THEN SHALL YE HAVE PEACE.’ This year Inglewood High School is extremely fortunate in having Margarita Chrambach as our American Field Service student. Upon her arrival in Los Angeles. Margie was greeted by her foster” family, the LeRoy Vaughns. In her stort stay at Inglewood. Margie has touched the hearts of many students at I.H.S. Margie's home is a city in Equador. South America. She lives with her mother and father, her grandmother, her three sisters, and a maid. Margie desires to become a multilingual secretary or in- terpreter. She speaks fluent German. Spanish, and English, and took French while here at Inglewood. She hopes to pur- sue this career and eventually to learn Russian and Chinese. Margie Finds America similar to Equador in some re- spects like modes of clothing. However. Equador's school activities are much different from those of American schools. In Quito the school does not provide any activi- ties.” All activities take place outside the school. Margie was a true ambassador. as she spent much of her time speaking to various civic organizations and an- swering their numerous questions. Margie often sprang back with a pert, inquisitive smile as she asked questions of her own. Through the privilege of having Margie at Ingle- wood this year. Margie as well as I.H.S. has greatly benefit- ed. MARGIE CHRAMBACH American Field Service Student from Equador 65 MILLER DRAFTED TO LEAD STUDENT COUNCIL, first Km, Ken Halperin. Mike Joyce. STUDENT COUNCIL This year's second semester Student Council, under direction of Student Body President Michael Miller, did much to accomplish the desires and interests of students. Emphasis during the semester was placed on activities. Planning and carrying out of the successful Harlem Clowns comic basketball game proved to be a highlight of the semester. Portions of the proceeds were donated to the Peace Corps. Full student participation in rallies was another first this semester. Body painting, student trivia quiz, tissue-wrap- ping contest, and the new spirit stick competition were pre- sented during Spring Sports Rally. Pep Week this year also proved to be unique and inter- esting. New innovations in rallies, contests, sells, and activi- ties added to the entire spirit of Pep Week. Numerous noon activities also contributed to the semes- ter: noon movies, narcotics discussion, and numerous oth- ers added to a successful second half of the school year. Second semester Student Council indeed had the inter- ests and desires of students in mind. Unique and well- planned activities truly describes second semester. MICHAEL D. Hence, all enjoyed themselves and each other to the fullest. When Alice fell in love with Tony (Gary Foley), son of the society Kirbys (Tom Coates and Rita Litton), the strained communication between in-laws met with disaster. With tremendous insight. The team’s great potential was demonstrated in theopening game against Leuzinger with a 14-7 win and again when they met Sky League champs of Morningside High and played their finest second half of the season only to be edged out by M.H.S. 20-27. Versatility of I.H.S. players was demonstrated when vacancies, created by injuries to key personnel, had to be filled. John Riley, outstanding fullback and linebacker, was injured in the Leuzinger opener and was absent from the team for several games. Sensational sophomore John Gol- denberg was out for the remainder of the season following his injury in the Mira Costa game. Phil Ginsburg and Jack Avram proved to be outstanding replacements for these two players. Mr. Vern Chick, shouts words of encouragement to a determined team. Look of hope is one time or another ex- pressed by a coach, as is in the face of Mr. Wayne Hastings. J. V. coach. Lack of height, inexperience, and injuries accounted for unimpressive season of 1963 varsity basketball team. Despite these handicaps, the team continually showed tremendous spirit, improvement, and love of the game. Never once did the team give up or fail to put up a Tight against some of the top teams they played. Among these teams were North Torr- ance High, which ranked second in theC.I.F.; Redondo High, which ranked in the upper ten of C.I.F.; and South Torrance High, which ranked 15 in C.I.F. There were six seniors on this year's team. Two. Mitch Fisher and Bob Hoffman, were leading scorers and rebounders of the team. Because of them. Inglewood's hope for first division finish in Bay League was bright, but early season knee injuries to both Hoffman and Fisher left the team without their services for the remainder of the year. Complementing the team were seniors Rich Fields. Tom Parker. Larry Humphrey, and Steve Glass. Along with them. Coach Vern Chick came up with group of talented juniors and one sophomore to give added strength. Sophomore Jerry Mercer added sorely needed scoring punch, while juniors Jim Myers. Drew Antablin. Andy Meyer, and Warren Dillon supplied rebounding power and speed. With the latter group of players returning next year, along with a group of junior varsity players. Inglewood's chances for league title will be best for future years. VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM. Huddled, Drew Antablin. Warren Dillon. Coach Chick. Bob Hoffman a'- pum. Rich Fields. Jerry Mercer. WRESTLING Strentgh And Ability Needed For A Good Match Thwap. on to the mat. Your opponent is on you like an octopus. He has one of your arms and then the other. Now the leg and then your head. Takedown, predicament, reversal, escape, near-fall, stalemate and pin. These are the sounds of wrestling. Behind these sounds lie determi- nation, perseverance, spirit and skill characteristic of a wrestler. Why should anyone with such attributes want to risk broken bones by being twisted and bent all over the floor? Stifling closeness of your opponent sprawled on top of you is but a pain minor to that of the shock and disillusionment when, dripping with perspiration, you realize that you simply lack the strength to get that seem- ingly two-ton opponent off your back. Maybe it is the screaming crowd. Out of their minds come shouts of Victory! Victory! Victory! Kill these guys! Smash! Break! Maul! Stomp them into the ground! It might be that pretty blue-green mat, all soft and squishy, that attracts our musclemen. Yet. it is our opinion that an inner something is the lure of the wrestler. A bug, whose hunger can only be satisfied by a well-fought match. Sentinel wrestlers were led this year by junior Steve Magruder, who became major tournament winner. C.I.F. finalist, and winner of forty matches. Devastating senior Paul Scharer and constantly improving sophomore Jeff Klossner also set the pace for this year’s team. Vacancies left by the graduation of seniors Paul Scharer, Dean Baker. Doyle Baker and Mike Baldwin will be most difficult to fill. However, coach Mickey Constuble holds as his future hopes an impressive array of junior varsity, soph- omore. and freshman prospects. 196$ VARSITY TEAM. M. Kendal. J. Kossner. P. Scharer. C. Arsl3n. That's my objec :ive--getting them to want to learn It’s strange, but cut of that sea of expressionless faces, the one that ughts with understanding makes up for all the others Now. more than ever, education is the foundation 't our nation s advancement. The time that the Class of 1968 has spent at Inglewood High School has reflected the interest and enthusiasm of the graduates. The Time has been satisfying or disappointing, depending upon its use. Time is one of the most important lessons of life. There must be time for work, for play; for joy. for sad- ness-. time to talk or to listen; to think or to act; to think of oneself or of others - time to learn the lessons of life. We hope that we have taught and are teaching students the proper time for each and that in learning about time, they will make wise decisions about their place in the world. Time is an excellent theme for this year’s Green and White. We are proud of the Class of I96S. They are to be congratulated in making proper use of their Time” at Inglewood High School. Their untir- ing efforts and long hours of practice this past year have ranked them among the best Inglewood has ever had. The ‘67-'6$ school year brought forth a new concep- tion of what the Majorettes are and should be. For the first time in Inglewood's history our six talented girls have been judged twice in each competition, as a unit with the band and on their own. Other firsts have been participation in local and national competitions, pep rallies, basket- ball half-time shows, solo competition and community shows. I find myself reflecting on all the events that provided material for this yearbook. Who can forget the Big I Talent Show, competition yells at rallies, the stealing of the spirit-stick” and spirit-jug.” Pep Week and Battle of the Bands in Sentinel Inn. Mr. Mike Van Woy. Senior Car Show. Big I” rally, announcements of sports courts, the Harlem Clowns and coach Penella. pow- derpuff games. Sentinel Daze. Homecoming, the many sportsmghts and pizza feeds. Disneyland, and the alma mater's ending each rally and game. These are just a few of the exciting events which hap- pened this year and that we have tried to put into this book for you. I have been priviledged to work with a cooperative facul- ty. who always heard our stories when we missed class. Mr. Byers, our adviser, helped the Staff avoid crumbling under pressure of long hours, deadlines, and unexpected crises. What would we have done without Cagle's Studio? Mr. Jim Rivers and his staff always came to the rescue in making last-minute prints. Mr. Robert Hopkins, representative of American Yearbook Co., spent time with us and so did members of S. K. Smith Cover Co., who helped us decide on cover and design. Special appreciation goes to Mrs. Mar- garet Larkin, who managed all our business affairs with companies and with student body. Dedication of all my staff members, who were always there when needed, paid off to make possible this memora- ble 1968 edition of tjreenand White Production of this year's book has been truly rewarding to us. We hope it will be well received by you.
