For the second time in three years the Sentinel Horsehiders took the Bay League crown with an out- standing record for the season. Undefeated in Bay League, winning twelve in a row and losing but three games all year, the ' 43 edition of the Inglewood Sentinel baseball team showed true championship form despite the handicap of a small squad. Dick Bishop, three-year letterman, two-year All-Bay League pitcher, and most valuable man this season, capped an amazing high school record by winning eleven games, losing but two, and in the deciding game with Compton hurling a perfect no-hitter, the goal of all pitchers. Supporting Bishop were such men as Johnnie Gates, four-year letterman, last year ' s most valuable man, and an All-Bay Leaguer; co-captain Jack Green, the former water polo star, who in two seasons of baseball developed into an All-Bay League third baseman; and co-captain Jack Kirkland, powerhouse outfielder and All- Bay Leaguer. Behind this foursome was Eddie Hyduke, three-year letterman, who led the team in batting, runs batted in, and bases stolen; Lew Hastings, last year ' s batting champ and a three-year letterman; Darwin Horn, catcher par excellence; Roger Duitsman, outfielder de luxe; and Jerry Bell of football and basketball fame. Even with such a team as this, there should be someone to back them up, and Lefty Walker, pitcher, and Joe Butler, utility man, did the job. Coach Winslow is to be congratulated on the fine job he did in his first year here at Inglewood High — in fact the whole team is. NICE WORK, CHAMPS!
