i)0 o . 1 A Joe Richards Editor-in-Chief Louise Anderson Business Manager )edico)tion Because in the short space of one year he has gained the confidence and co-operation of every student and because he has proved himself a friend and a real pal, We, the Staff, dedicate the 1940 Green and White to MR. JAMES C. HAINES As the years slide by and new interests push their way into our lives, high school memories will grow dimmer behind the curtain of the past. But there will be from time to time little, effortless flashes of memory which bring back vividly the scenes and people we knew . . . the morning crowd waiting before the still locked doors of Building Six . . voices calling across the arcade . . . breathless moments at a football game . . . those familiar campus couples ... the gay crowds at the dances . . . the daily struggle to open your locker as the time for the bell approaches. In the three sections of our book we have recorded School Life in its various, phases, hoping that the memories it brings to you will be happy ones. v • 1 C you WILL REMEMBER the ADMINISTRATION, our friends in the offices and the Faculty, tt fsHgSl the CLASSROOMS, in which we spent our time between passins bells. your CLASSM ATES whether they be seniors, juniors, sophomores, or freshmen, and ORGANIZATIONS, we joined.  v ru ?teer Mr. Ewing Mr. Spaulding Mrs. Ruth Eades, President Mr. Frank A. Perhaps the most popular organization in the entire school is the Footlight Guild, under the capable direction of Miss Lawrence. Only those students who have passed tryouts may become members of the Guild. This year, after grueling try- outs, twenty-five boys and girls were admitted to member- ship. Each of these selected students has had a part in at least one of the two annual productions. Humor, romance, and the threat of tragedy were only a few of the many features of Sorority House, the first semes- ter play. In the second semester the class presented a touching human play. In a House Like This. This play was concerned with the problems of the every-day life of a family. Both plays were well received by the students and community. Of course these plays would not have been so successful as they were without the help of the Stage Crew. Inglewood audiences have learned to expect not only a finished produc- tion by the actors, but interesting, well-designed stage sets. Mr. Slattery and his boys invariably produce outstanding sets, lighting, and off-stage effects. Their efficiency has proved in- valuable to our dramatic productions. t £ CAST Herbert Kalness. The day begins at 9 o clock in the morning with the posture parade. All high schools in the Bay League attending participate. Several awards are given for group and individual marching, posture, and neatness. From 10 o clock until 12 o clock the sports activities, such as volleyball, basketball, baseball, badminton, swimming, hockey, and tennis, are carried on. After lunch the posture parade results are announced and skits are presented by the various G. A. A. organizations. At Beverly Hills this year Inqlewood was well represented. Although Inglewood took no places in the awards, she was given many favorable comments by the judges. The sports are competitive but are conducted for pleasure only. A new arrangement was made this year for the division of groups. A system of colors was applied to the different sizes of the school groups, and in this way all were given an equal share in the activities. Play Day was enjoyed by all and was a tremendous success. PROMS AND PARTIES, «... put the sparkle into high school life. AND, OF COURSE, YOU WON'T FORGET the ASSEMBLIES which provided both entertain- ment and instruction, the CONTESTS, stimulating school spirit and enlivening activities, and the CAMPUS SCENES, which will linger with us long after we have forgotten square roots and participles. romy r i Combined language classes stage a banquet in the study hall . . .
