Wrestlers Take Down Varsity wrestlers are (back row): Bruce Schulz. Jay McCaffery, Rudy Askman, John Pace. Marty Blnglsser (middle row): Mike Studley (captain). Russ Gaston. Charlie Richards. Brad Griffith (front row): Scott Grillo. Steve Vanlandlngham. Dave Speed and Ron Miller. Not pictured: Wayne Horton and Steve Mills. This year was a season full of firsts for the wrestlers. It was the first time: they beat Bothell; for a Varsity-Alumni match; for a team tour - to California; that four Vikings, plus an alternate, went to state competition (the most in KingCo). Dave Speed was the first to receive a first in AAA Regionals and Mike Studley was the first Vik to be a three- year state competitor. The Vikings also secured their best records of 9-1 in KingCo and 14-2 for the season. They placed 2nd in KingCo. 7th in Regionals. and finished the year off with their highest place in state competition. The four state wrestlers were, at 101. Ron Miller (23-3), 2nd in KingCo. 2nd in Regionals; at 108, Dave Speed (25- 2), 2nd in KingCo. 1st in Regionals; at 129, Mike Studlery (25-2), 2nd in .KingCo, 2nd in Regionals; at 148, Brad Griffith (17-8), 3rd in KingCo, 4th in Regionals; at 190. the alternate. Rudy Askman (14-7). 2nd in KingCo. Also, at 141 was Charlie Richards (20-2-1), 1st in KingCo. The JV team also did excellent with a 14-1 record. Marty Bingisser and Ron Belter both placed first in the JV KingCo tournament. With the excellent experience they have, the future looks very optimistic. Spencer Stimmel and Ken Kretschmer. Divers in front row are David Jensen. Roy Stubsjoen and Tor Stubsjocn. Coach Mark Jaeger helped this year’s Boys Swimming team to a successful year. He was quoted as saying “individual achievement is team achievement and 1 feel we’ve all improved as a team.’’ Stronger than last year, they were led to four wins and eight losses but their highlight was the historic cream over arch-rivals the Bothell Cougars. The Vikings most talented swimmers were Curt and Dave Downey, with Craig Kelley in the breast stroke. Also sophomore Tim (Buzz) Stolemier (State Finalist) was exceedingly excellent. In diving Tor Stubsjoen led the Viks with runner up Dave Jensen. Ninth graders dominated the team and coach Mark Jaeger said “we’ve got a lot to look forward to next year.” 3. Dave Downev swims his leq in the 200 IM. 4. Diver Tor Stubsjoen scores yet another first place. 5. David Jensen laughs over his diving program. 6. David Jensen executes his dive.
