Girls Enthusiastic This year, Inglemoor’s Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team, coached for the first year by Mr. Jerry Rhodes, ended the season on a positive note by winning 6 out of their 8 last games. They beat arch-rival Bothell 54-39. Mr. Rhodes is confident that they will go all the way to state next year. Coached by Miss Sally Mitchell, the J V team had a season of 9 wins and 8 losses. The girls improved their skills quite a bit and enjoyed themselves at the same time. The team also was victorious over Bothell. Captain of the season was Mary Moore. Most Inspirational was Julie Schick, and Most Im- proved was Lynn Houg. Special thanks go to Laura Ramsey, statistioner. and to Vanessa Ashe, a very inspiring manager. 1. Kim Faucher. 2. Center Dan Hamann attempts to tip it to the Vikings. 3. Tom Johnson and Ross Close scramble for a loose ball. 4. Ross Close. Dave Jones, and Len Sielicki form a Viking wall to get a rebound. 5. Varsity players lend an ear to Coach Pressey's strategy during a time-out. Under the coaching of Mr. Rod Pressey, the 1979 Varsity Viking Basketball Team had an excellent season. By placing 4th in KingCo. they qualified for the West Central District playoffs. This is the first year Inglemoor has ever competed in these playoffs. There were several other high points during the season, including beating Juanita, then ranked 2nd in state. The Vikings also beat cross-town rival Bothell twice, both times at Bothell. The team also flew to Hawaii to play in a Christmas Basketball tournament. There were several new faces on the team this year, including exchange student Ross Close from Melbourne, Australia, and transfer students Dan Hamann. from Kings’ Garden, Allan Neill, from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Len Sielicki, from Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Vikings reached the 90-point mark twice; once against Interlake, and once against Redmond. Hamann tied the school record for points scored in the Interlake game with 38. Next year looks promising for Inglemoor Varsity Basketball, as both Neill and Hamann are juniors, and several other juniors gained quite a bit of varsity experience. Varsity Basketball 67
