This was a year of learning for the J.V. Boys Basket- ball team. Mr. Jim Moore expressed that this year’s emphasis was not placed on winning but on giving each player an equal chance to play and to develop their skills in order to form a stronger varsity team for next year. Outstanding players were Mike and Mark Alfano. A highlight for some of the J.V. members was accom- panying the Varsity team to Hawaii. The Sophomore Boy’s Basketball team started out fresh this year with a brand new coach. Mr. Ron Romanick. who replaced Mr. Jerry Rhodes as coach. The team had a tough season but Mr. Ron Romanick said that he was certainly pleased with their efforts. Rick Czapiewski was their leading scorer and rebounder, followed by many other outstanding players such as: Alan Sharp. Brandon Gary and Rusty Ristow. 1. Varsity players lend an ear to Coach Pressey's strategy during a time-out. Under the coaching of Mr. Rod Pressey, the 1979 Varsity Viking Basketball Team had an excellent season. By placing 4th in KingCo. they qualified for the West Central District playoffs. This is the first year Inglemoor has ever competed in these playoffs. There were several other high points during the season, including beating Juanita, then ranked 2nd in state. The Vikings also beat cross-town rival Bothell twice, both times at Bothell. The team also flew to Hawaii to play in a Christmas Basketball tournament. There were several new faces on the team this year, including exchange student Ross Close from Melbourne, Australia, and transfer students Dan Hamann. from Kings’ Garden, Allan Neill, from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Len Sielicki, from Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Vikings reached the 90-point mark twice; once against Interlake, and once against Redmond. Hamann tied the school record for points scored in the Interlake game with 38. Next year looks promising for Inglemoor Varsity Basketball, as both Neill and Hamann are juniors, and several other juniors gained quite a bit of varsity experience. Varsity Basketball 67
