Diversity, Thy Name is English “On-going criticism and improvement” was the name of the game in Inglemoor’s English Department this year. This group of talented people had two ideas in mind: to reach every student in some way and to focus on much needed basic skills. By offering a wide variety of classes, teachers gave students the opportunity to choose what interested them, the level of difficulty they were most comfortable with, and the teaching method they preferred. The importance of reading and writing was stressed throughout, and much deserved attention was given to helping students develop these skills. The genre of literature this year was diverse. Poetry, drama, novels and writing were all studied. Many time personal values of the students which were based on the American Culture itself, were compared with those of other countries. This gave a fuller apreciation of the literature of both their own and of other cultures. Social Studies Frank Ashby Jean Garrity Ken Bogle The Social Studies Department has grown considerably with three new teachers this year, making it Inglemoor’s largest History department ever. Mr. Dave Long and Mr. Ron Rominick were new to the staff, spending a lot of their time teaching U.S. History; Mr. Ron Rominick also is teaching several Math classes. Mrs. Jan Thumlert transfered from the English Department. The main goals of the Social Studies Department this year was coordinating material. This was most apparent in U.S. History, where teachers all worked on the same things, so students wouldn’t be behind or ahead of others. There have been fewer electives this year, so as to fulfill State requirements. Because of the new teachers, Depart- ment Head Mr. Ken Bogle says there’s new energy in the department. The new teachers provided more ideas and strength to the department. There seemed to be a greater faculty interest in their classes. 1. Mr. Ken Bogle takes a relaxing break to read the newspaper and keep up on current issues 2. Mr. Jim Guier hands back papers to his anxious psychology students. 3. Checking to make sure that everyone is studying. Mr. Dave Long takes a look around the room. 42 Faculty
