THE YEAR T959 60 as any Indian would speck of it was the year of the fire doors Llndien might remember it as the year he almost reached the Happy Hunting Grounds In the fall he thought he was doomed be cause too few subscriptions had been sold but then he was rescued as the students of l J H S rallied to his cause Again at the end of the first semester his life was en dangered when his editor transferred to another school But despite the handicaps his life was assured by his strong constitu tion and acod medicine Now he can re view the year with calm perspective and many pages He remembers the embar rassment of b ing called The Little Indian an The Llnd en bv even such cose friends as his production staff This was the year that activity tickets were discontinued Five new teachers greeted the students at the beginning cf the year, and three more came later in the year. Study halls were no longer held in classrooms, and every- one studied in the auditoriumg library slips were valued highly. The high school library had only 5500 books which limited research possibilities The faculty student ratio was 22 1 as nearly T700 students attended a school constructed for only about 1100 A spirit of unrest was cau ed by the fact that school officials were hoping to get their plans for a new high school to materialize Three basketball games were held to raise money for crippled children and students helped with welfare prolects like the Heart Fund Drive and the Calls for Cancer radio program A ticket to the Senior Class Dance was hidden and hints were given over the broadcasts to help students locate it Many tudents signed ua for a summer school program to be held which offered courses in Advanced Composition Advanced Mathe matic and Typing Andrew J Stahura president cf the school board presented diplomas to the seniors at commencement because our number for a new building had come up in Harrisburg and Mr. Getts was there straightening out some difficul- ties. L'lndien hopes that the events recorded in his pages will bring back many mem- ories cf Indiana T959-60 to you.
