VARSITY BASKETB LL D 7 ?'? 3. The Ctirls Varsity Basketball team had a fine season and ended with a record of 14-3. They were coached by Mary lane Megee. Helping Miss Megee was manager Sue Dill, who was well-liked and a big asset to the team. Nearing the end of the season lay Wingate became the team's statistician and did a fine job, Playing all four years was senior Phyllis Dunton. Phyllis had a good left-handed shot and was a dedicated player. Glenda FIukie Harris and Sandy Deloach, both juniors were the team's double trouble . Flukie had tremendous speed, along with the ability to steal the ball, and Sandy was the playmaker of the team. Both girls were very aggressive and fine team players. Showing great improvement this year was junior Lavonne Purnell, who when keeping the ball up in the air, was unbeatable. lunior Alisa Turlington was little and fast. She was a dedicated player and saw plenty of action. Claudia Herbruger, a junior, was fast using her left hand effectively and was a very dedicated player. Part of the starting five, sophomore Cheryl Townsend could jump, shoot, and play good defensive ball. Another sophomore, Sabrina Leonard handled the ball with great skill and accuracy. Playing good defensive ball and always hustling was sophomore Cheryl Wingate. Cathy Murray, also a sophomore, was a dedicated player with a lot of team spirit. Sophomores Becky Moore and Betsy Murray not only devoted their time to playing good basketball, but also added humor to the team. Both girls had good attitudes and were fine team players. 'C .' Muni

I V BASKETB LL The girls lunior Varsity Basketball Team was coached by Wanda Coleman. Although the girls' record was not fantastic, they returned each night to correct their mistakes and improve their ability to play basketball. The girls were interested in basketball as well as sportsmanship, conduct, and had a great urge to improve. Starting the season as a guard and ending as a forward, Katrina Deloach improved greatly in both shooting and rebounding. Lynette lohnson, a guard, gained the confidence needed to participate in sports and became one of the starting five. Named the most improved player on this year's l.V. team was Vernetha Holden. Cora White, always full of enthusiasm, with her height proved an asset to the team. Duane Warrington had the spirit to win. Both Cindy Davidson and Esther Carroll were eager players and were always willing to improve. Freespirited Ernestine Cooper was always ready to learn more basketball. A very aggressive player, Nanita Slade was especially good on defense, The most aggressive player on the team Wescenia Hayes, who was also very good on defense. No team is complete without managers.
