They were under the leadership of head coach Bruce Steen and assistant coaches Barry Lynch, Orville Basinski, joe Palermo, and Steve Carey. Leading the team was senior quarterback and co-captain Mike Truitt, who did an outstanding job, joining him in the backfield was senior Darryl jarmon, who had a good season at fullback and defensive tackle. The remainder of the backfield were juniors George Empty, Larry McCray, and Clarence Gibbs, all doing fine jobs in both the backfield and on defense, sophomores Billy Steen, who saw spot duty as a back-up quarterback, starter Aaron Harmon at fullback until his injury, and Ronnie Thomas at halfback and linebacker. Ronnie was considered one of the hardest hitters on this year's team. Doing a super job at every game was freshman Harold Harmon as halfback and linebacker. Another co-captain was senior Wayne Handy. He anchored the offensive line and was a good linebacker. At guard was senior Mike Wilgus, a letterwinner, junior Larry Phillips, sophomore starter Raymond Handy, and sophomore Barry Dean. Senior Sam Singletary was starting center and did an excellent job. junior letterwinner Max Twigg and sophomore David Pusey were replacement centers, Even though they had no previous experience, tackle positions were very well covered by seniors Mark Steele and Frank Holloway. Before his operation, junior Guy Warrington was another outstanding tackle. Replacement tackles were Allen McCray, a junior, jeff Givans, jim Weaver, and Mike Terrell, all three sophomores who did good jobs and gained experience. Senior Charlie Mumford did an excellent job on defense, and was also another co- captain. Senior and co-captain Steve Wootten led a fine group of ends. Starter Dana Long, a junior, and sophomore Eric Magill were also ends. Another senior who did well while playing for the first time was john Holloway. Anthony Empty, a defensive starter, and Ernest Belmont, both sophomores, were replacement ends. The punting chores were handled by junior Bobby Hoban who worked very hard and did a good job. Honors for this year's team went to Mike Truitt, selected first team All-Conference and All- American, and Charlie Mumford who was All-State and honorable mention All-Conference. Wayne Handy and Harold Harmon were also chosen as honorable mention All-Conference. In spite of the fact that the lndian's season was not outstanding, it was a good rebuilding year. The boys' attitudes changed for the better and all showed a greater interest in playing, All in all it was a very rewarding season,
