May you continue successfully up the ladder as you make your , way through life. Mauve lo S'mm0 S Elmer R. Knowles Secretary Principal University of Maine, B.S. Ed. Boston University, M.Ed. 14 Q 4 X To the graduating class of 1977 I wish continued health and happiness. Happiness is a funny thing - you can't see it or touch it, but those who possess it, treasure it and those who do not, often spend their lives searching for it. Happiness comes, not from receiving, but from giving - of love, of sympathy, of faith, of understanding. Oddly enough the more we give, the happier we become, and the happier we become, the more we have to give. We make ourselves happy or unhappy by our attitudes toward ourselves, our work, our neighbors, our world. The truly happy person is the one who can be enthusiastic about the things he has to do as well as the things he wants to do. Happiness is a wonderful thing. It is the one gift we can give ourselves - and the most precious gift l can wish for you. Carmean I. Deldeo, lr. Vice-Principal University of Delaware, B.S. Villanova University, MA. Rae M. Although they were not very successful in scoring, defensively they were very aggressive. The offense could bring the ball down the field, but just could not get it in the goal cage. lf the opportunities to score had been successful, the season would have been a good one. Leading scorer for this year was left inner Annette Bunting. Right inner Sandy Deloach and center forward Anna Wiland shared the second place scoring position. Sandy led the team in assists. Ellen Murray was a right wing, but put in any position, she could do the job. Another right wing was Delessa Derrickson who was one of the most aggressive players. Left wing positions were taken by Margo Tingle, a most improved player, and Cheryl Wingate who has the potential to become an outstanding hockey player. The defense was led by Ginny Flood, an inside halfback, who was the most outstanding player on this year's team. Sue Kleinstuber, another inside halfback, did a fine job while guarding two people at once. Outside halfback, Sandy Holloway, did a good job covering her position which is one of the most physically demanding. Greatly improved in her stick work was Becky Blair, another outside halfback. Tammy Dill, sweeper fullback, was the most dependable player and was named honorable mention All-Conference. Once overcoming her fear, Becky Moore, became a very good goalie. Although they didn't have a junior varsity team, these girls were depended on to replace the varsity players: Becky Bishop and Kay Deloach, both inside halfbacks, Lynette johnson, an outside halfback, and Barbara Anderson, a fullback. No team is complete without its managers, this year's team had the dependable help of Lesa Doughty and Karen Andrews. .892 1 Ta? -X . Q . .ap- Q-4- i' ad Q Rf ' it it as . George Empty and Ronnie Dickerson, both reserve forwards, had good hustle and are good all-around players. Brian Andrews, a backup guard, was a hard worker and a good hustler. Headed by coach Barry Lynch, the boy's IV Basketball team completed the season with a 10-7 record. During the last of the season, the boys came on strong and showed the kind of ball they were capable of playing. With a good defense, along with fine teamwork, the boys showed a large amount of improvement. Center Anthony Empty was a leader, both offensively and defensively. He showed a cool head and always gave 1001, for the team, Ronnie Wallop, an excellent defensive player, was very aggressive both in practice or a game. The most dedicated player, Bryan Tindley, worked constantly to improve himself. With hard work and concentration, Guy Hudson can become an excellent team leader. Even though not playing much at the beginning of the season, Cepada Whaley came on strong to give valuable help to the team. james Irving, never having played organized ball before, was definitely the most improved player on this year's team. The most aggressive player, Harold Harmon, was good on both defense and offense. Having a great basketball savy, Anthony Mumford was the team's leading scorer and rebounder. Earnest Belmont, the second highest scorer, constantly hustled and never gave up, Pat Simmons and Glento Beckett, both first - year players, were always ready to improve and learn new basketball techniques. jf, 14. WRESTLING Indian River's I V Wrestlers, coached by Michael Dusch, finished this season with a record of 6 wins and 6 losses. I.R, had five new additions to the team this year. Ken Ferebee, a freshman who wrestled in the 100 pound weight class, finished with an outstanding record of 10 wins and 1 loss. Ken also wrestled 1 varsity match which he won. Xavier Solomon, a freshman in the 100 pound weight class, joined the team late and finished with a record of 1 win and 2 losses. Norman Twigg, freshman wrestled mainly varsity this year, but unfortunately lost the only two I.V. matches he wrestled. Norman wrestled at 121 pounds. Tommy Fryberger, freshman at 128 pounds, ended the season with a promising 8 wins and 4 losses. Wesley Taylor, freshman in the unlimited weight class, had a 2 and 0 record. Two of the I V wrestlers this year had no losses: Clarence Gibbs, a junior who wrestles at 140 pounds, had 2 wins and no losses. lohn Coulbourne had 3 wins and no losses. lohn is a sophomore and is in the 169 pound division. Both Clarence and lohn wrestled varsity also. Keith Beauchamp, a sophomore in the 114 pound weight class, won 2 matches and lost 6. Robert Lynch, another sophomore, who wrestled at 121 pounds, had the bad luck to lose his only match. Darryl Tindley, a varsity wrestler at 140 pounds, helped out the I V team with 3 wins and only 1 loss. Darryl is a senior. Guy Morin, a junior in the 157 pound weight class, had a record of 3 wins and 2 losses. Rex Powell, a junior finished with a 4 and 4 record. Rex wrestled at 157 pounds. Rick Knox, a sophomore in the unlimited weight division, had 4 wins and 2 losses this season. Mike Terrell, a sophomore, who wrestles the unlimited weight class in varsity, wrestled one I V match which he won. Alvin Taylor, who also wrestles in the unlimited weight division, finished with 3 wins and 1 loss. lohn Middleton, a sophomore in the 187 pound weight class finished with a record of 10 wins,1 loss, and 1 tie. Another wrestler with a large number of wins is sophomore, Mike Phillips, who had 10 wins,1 loss, and 1 tie. Mike wrestled at 147 pounds. Although the I V's seasonal record of 6 wins and 6 losses may not sound too impressive, the team did very well considering the lack of wrestlers to fill certain positions and the tough competition. Our team is still young and we hope that it will continue to grow in the years to come. . ... , - WHEN Va,.Aj if SOFTBALL Coaching softball for the '76 year was Mary lane Megee and assistant coach Wanda C'0leman. One who got very nervous before games, but had good concentration during the game, was pitcher Denise Belmont. At first base was Martha Custis, another conscientious player, and also Cheryl Townsend. Second base was covered by Natasha Hayes, who added a lot of spirit and enthusiasm to the team. Maria Taylor, throwing an accurate fast ball to first, was positioned on third base. Shortstop Sandy Deloach bunted well and had a good attitude toward team playing.
