ZZJO1' yczrje 1969 You may be wondering why the yearbook staff chose the unusal name Targe for Incline High School's annual. Targe is a Scottish word meaning shield , We thought it fitting to name ouryearbook Targe because Incline High's shield, like this yearbook, portrays all facets of our school life. The separate parts of the shield which appears on the cover of your yearbook stand for the following: The head of the Highlander, the school mascot, represents strength and dignityg the thistle leaves and thistles represent the national symbol of the High- lander country, Scotlandg the scales of justice symbolize the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, and the stand represents loyaltyg the torch surrounded by the atomic symbol signifies progress through educationg the lamp is the symbol of knowledge and our search for ity and the skier represents sportsmanship through athletic competition. Knowledge, athletic prowess, and sportsmanship are symbolized in the center of the shield, just as they are the center and aim of school life. We have tried to trace our progress toward these aims throughout the seasons of the year in TARGE 1969. We, the staff of TARGE, hopeyou enjoy this first yearbook of Incline High School, Qpeogcafjozz This, the first yearbook of Incline High School, we proudly dedicate to the man who has watched Incline Village's educational facilities grow from afewclass- rooms above the PostOffice to the two beautiful schools that we occupy today. He first became a part of this in 1962 when he filled the positions of custodian, bus driver, teacher, and principal of the small school with a total of less than 60 pupils. He became principal of incline Elementary School when it was built. This past year he has supervised two schools with a total enrollment of over 500 while working unceasingly to secure the best for us - a foot- ball scoreboard any school would be lucky to get in i13 second year, a fantastic ski program, and free rooter's buses to all the games, just to mention a few things. This, the first yearbook of incline High School, we proudly dedicate to our principal, Mr. Carl Shaff. L7 m11fz1kff'af1'0z2.' ouzzy ki LJ' --aiu-.iN STANDING L TO R: Dr. W. O'Brian, Dr. L.
