we 0I'l'l0l 2 arid What is the outstanding characteristic of the sopho- more class? If you aslc one of the members, she will say it is popularity. Ask another, and another, and yet another, and you will always get the same reply. Hence one has to assume that there must be some truth in this conviction. Gloria Castella and Rita Hontgias have proved their popularity as Central cheerleaders: Barbara Pape did lilcewise as a Princess for the Military Bally Betty Martinez, Patsy Pugh, and Meredith Engel made a high rating as honorees and runners-up for a place of royalty at Central Junior-Senior Prom. When the princesses for the Selene Clubs Black and White Ball were announced, two of the prettiest were our own Margaret Morales, representing the Mexican Chamber of Commerce, and Mary Virginia fsisi Canales, princess of Rio Grande Valley, who was crowned Queen of the Ball. ln school life also, the sophomores distinguished them- selves. Fourteen were elected to probationary membership in the National Honor Society: this represents twenty percent of the class. So with one hall: of their high school days in the background, and one half to go, the sophomores should go far spiritually intellectually, and socially.
