' i I 'QQ' ,.4r' P ' ,xc - Icling Reconstruction The student body received midday nourishment and renewed energy in the main lunchroom while taculty members ate in a converted classroom a tew doors away. Reduced enrollment was responsible tor two changes. Meals were served tor only tour periods a day instead ot tive, and the lunchroom statt was re- duced trom twenty-three to nineteen. Cver seven hundred complete hot lunches were provided tor students every day. In addition, thirty dozen hamburgers and three hundred pounds ot French tries were served to hungry customers. Nearly every- one drank either white or chocolate millc. The coolcs, under the supervision ot veteran chet, Mr. Altred Lewis, baked the pies and cakes, one thousand ot which were devoured each day. Mrs. Lois Bridenbaugh, manager tor the past tive years, indicated that no new equipment was added this year. All improvements were awaiting the new lqitchen and the new douloledeclc lunch- room which will be part ot the next phase. The mainTenance sTaTT's duTies are diTTiculT enough any year aT a high school The size oT Hyde Park, buT This year The prob- lems were compounded. While classes meT as usual Tor regular school and Tor nighT school, The main building was being guTTed and rebuilT. The audiTorium and iTs adiacenT areas were being Torn aparT and sTrucTurally alTered. OTTen There were gaping spaces in The walls or in The rooT, and such openings made The Taslc oT heaTing The bui'ding much more diTTiculT. STeel worl4, masonry, Tiling, sheeT meTal worli and painTing were going on oTTen simullaneously. ParTicles OT plasTer, cemenT or painT added To The usual amounT oT dirT and debris. Many Times ianiTors had To reclean areas ThaT had been cleaned an hour earlier. The size OT The mainTenance crew remained The same as The year beTore, ThirTy-one men and Three women. Mr. Jess Ginge- rich, engineer-cusTodian, was in over-all charge oT operaTing The building. His righT hand man was Mr. Joseph Derbas, assisTanT engineer, MainTenance men were on duTy, in overlapping shiTTs, Tor TwenTy-Tour hours a day, seven days a weelc. The largesT group worlced Trom 3:30 unTil midnighT wiTh smaller crews on oTher shiTTs. AlThouah ouTside conTracTors were rebuilding The school, Mr. Gingerich had To pay close aTTenTion To The daily acTiviTies oT all The men. iiiciccicc is T' We Engineer-CusTodian, Mr. Jess Gingerich sTudies remodeling plans.
