Not all of to- day's girls are shorthand and typing automatons. On the third floor of Hyde Park you will find some competent prospective wives learning how to eook and sew. Against opposition from the YMCA, these girls are rapidly becoming delee- table man-bait. On a reeent visit to those hallowed grounds, I diseovered one enterprising girl baking devils- food eake with one hand, while her other hand was busy turning out one of Jacques Fath's best. SHOP Dum, dum-dum-dum. Eek! A crime at Hyde Park? Nope, itls the kids in the wood shop patiently hammering away on various items. Their shrieks are due to hammer-smashed fingers. Before tackling wood shop, our boys take indus- trial arts laboratory where they learn funda- mental erafts. VVe all watch our p's and qls, but our junior printers must watch their em'sl' and 'Len's Cprintersl measuresj. The beautiful programs and tickets for numerous school fune- tions are the products of their loyal endeavors. MUSIC DEPARTMEX T Anything, from the sprightly strains of Pan and his pipes to the latest Bop, Rag, or Jazz, falls into the realm of our music department. There they train anyone from fleaweight soprano to heavyweight bass until they sing in beautiful harmony. Diligent freshmen and sophomores learn sf-ales and tunes, while the harmony classes learn to write them. The strange sounds which emerge from the fourth floor are the net results of the bands, orehestras, and miscellaneous in- struments. Yes, all these and more are provided by the efficient. art department. If you are an aspiring Degas, or a simple doodler, the art staff is always pre- pared to discover your latent talents. The freshie, who arrives in art 1 may, by throwing the right splotc-hes in the right places, become a genius of modern art.
