Longhorn s defeat of Cody and the consequent tr1p to State Tourney at Lmcoln March 10 13 We crashed the headlmes for the first tlme on March 18 when Mr Howard prmted our picture in the Grant County Trxbune We took part m the toast program at the annual basketball banquet held at Hotel Hyannls at the close of the season For the 1948 1949 term we orgamzed m November wzth Al1ce Greathouse as presxdent Shzrley Bonxfxeld v1ce president Bettle Bunner secretary Ann Monahan treasurer and Mxss Ed1th Durst as sponsor Ann Monahan Delores McCray Pat Varner and Barbara Bonrheld were elected cheerleaders They bought two large megaphones whlch added to the effectweness of thelr cheerleadlng In sp1te of the Blizzard of '49 and the drifted roads we attended all games held out of town When the Longhorns defeated S Agnes Academy at Alliance m the Regxonal Tourney we agaxn attended the State Tourney at Lmcoln At the basketball banquet whxch closed the season loyal fans of the team were permitted to purchase txckets and attend for the flrst tzme For the 1949 1950 term we elected Janet Collins presldent Barbara Bonxfleld vxce presldent Pat Varner secretary Janxece Metcalf treasurer and Mrs Nzch Hayward sponsor Fxrst cheerleaders elected were Janet Collms Helen Davxs and Pat Louks reserves were Lou1se Warner Barbara Bomfxeld and Esther Varner We held rallies and skits precedmg each basketball game wlth Delores McCray Barbara Evert Jamece Metcalf and Janet Castle servmg as sk1t chaxrmen Excxtement reached the peak when our Longhorns defeated Dunnmg at the Dnstrxct Tourney m Seneca and beat both Woodlake and Comstock teams at the two day Reglonal Tourney at Broken Bow They earned thelr thxrd tmp to the State Tourney and we had 16 members atteill For the fzrst tlme 1n our hxstory we had no competltwe cheermg sectxon mothers of the first team players agaxn entertamed the team and faculty and fans were agam permxtted to attend The King s Daughters served 120 persons U1 the Comrnunlty Bulldlng Our club took charge of the table and hall decoratxons usmg the school colors and a basketball theme Mrs Hayward was toastmaster and used TEAM WORK' as the key letters for the toasts Janet Colhns gave the toast for the Longhorn Pepsters the club presented a skit Rooters with Janxece Metcalf gxvxng the narratlon m rhyme and the other members drsplaymg thenr cheermg strength m a tug of war We sponsored the dance fxlm Prom Nrght for the dance whlch concluded the evenxng s entertamment For the 1950 1951 season we elected Janet Collms presldent Barbara Evert v1ce presxdent Louxse Warner secretary Janxece Metcalf treasurer Mass Dorothy Zrer cheer sponsor and Mrs Hayward busmess manager Cheerleaders elected for fxrst team were Helen Davxs Janet Collms and Janlece Metcalf for the reserves were Louxse Warner Carmen Murer and Carol Ewoldt They chose custom made unxforms wxth blue skxrts and whxte blouses We held our regular busmess meetmgs each Wednesday afternoon and cheer practzce after school on Thursdays Sklt chaxrmen were Lo1s Carson Joanne Albright Janet Castle and Sandra Castle Ralhes were held on Frxday afternoons Our magazine drwe was most successful thus year and we plan to use our surplus funds tn entertammg the basketball teams faculty and our own members at the annual banquet on March 30 Basketball fans wmll be welcome to attend also We wxsh to thank those who have helped our club by donatxons of money supplymg transportatxon to games and by patronlzmg our annual magazine drwe Wrthout the support of school patrons we could not functxon as a club We do apprecxate your help 39 I . .
