Since she came to our sehool in the eleventh grade, she has become an integral part of school life, as president of the Spanish Club, contributing editor of The LANTERN, and representative to the Student Council. She is vice-president of the National Honor Society and a member of Quill and Seroll. She was voted A'Friendliest in Whois Who and is president of Glee Club. LAURA ANN SMITH nshe is a winsome wee thing. She is a handsome wee thing. She is a honny wee thing. ' Although small, Laura Ann has many tal- ents. One of these is dancing, and she has shown her skill in many school programs. She has been a member of the Spanish Club, the Glee Club, and the Black Team in her five years here. In the tenth grade she was a SIGNPOST reporter, and in the eleventh grade she was an Honor Council represen- tative. PEGGY ROSS True wit is nature to advantage clressectf' In Peggy's six years at Hutchisonis she has skillfully handled many activities, as member of the Honor Council, secretary of the ninth grade, tenth grade reporter to the SIGN- POST, vice-president of the Athletic Associa- tion, vice-president of the Black Team, and as co-editor of The SIGNPOST for two years. Her senior year, she is treasurer of the class and a member of the French Club. Peggy is also a member of the Honor Society and Quill and Scroll. Kay has worked hard on whatever she has undertaken and has gained many lasting friends since she entered Hutchison's in the ninth grade. She was an Honor Council representative last year, and this year she is a member of the Gold Team and the Spanish Club. When anyone is as pleasant as Kay, she is bound to always be in demand. ANN XVILDER HA lassie fair to walk with And pleasant to lenowf' Although Ann has been a member of our class for only one year, she has become a favorite among seniors. By class vote she was elected the wittiest girl in the twelfth grade. Our only wish is that she had joined the class of '52 sooner. ANN UZZELLE UBright as the sun llilTlSOH-.li Immediately after entering Hutc'hison's from St. Mary's in the tenth grade, Uzzelle took an active part in sports of the school. It all began when I took a space ship from New Planetaria last Monday. Jane Apperson, now photography edi- tor for Life, was down to cover my departure. Before I boarded she told me of many of my old Hutchison classmates. Mayrene Dillard has been chosen as The Most Glamorous Mother of the Year and Marian Cobb has been cited as the Universe's Number 1 Party Giver. Boarding the rocket, I entrusted by life to the ship,s trusty pilot whom I recognized as Elissa Austin. She prom- ised that we would arrive, but she couldn,t say what condition we would be in. Elissa told me that Ann Uzzelle, now governor of Mississippi, has been vacationing on the moon and is reported chasing a space cadet. Elissa also said that Nancy Ransom has agreed to manage Nancy Lee Nearn's campaign for president on the Dixiecrat ticket. Nancy Ransom gained her experience with campaigns at Hutchison and predicts overwhelming success for her candidate. Once on the moon I found that Mary Ann Crain and Elizabeth Boyd were also enjoying the popular resort. Mary Ann is now Dean of Men at Vanderbilt and Elizabeth invited me to take lessons at her flying school. I was thrilled to learn that Billie Dean Ingram was the hotel's enter- tainer, Billie Dean's hair looked most unusual and she reported that she had had it fixed in one of Janet Ballenger's chain of beauty parlors. Janet is backing a move begun by Blanche Kaiser and Ann Wilder to put long fingernails on every American woman. I read in the Interplanetary Tribune, of which Peggy Ross is now the fighting editor, that Eda Claire Lake has been appointed Mars' Ambassador to Venus and that Marion King has opened a new kennel for homeless dogs, adopting all the wandering canines in sight. Nancy Gailor's translation of Vergil into the vernacular has been on the bestseller list for two months. Ann Howell, book critic for Shirley Polk's rival paper The Space-Scimitar, gave Nan- cy's book a boost with her marvelous review. Several more of the Hutchison class of 1952 have made careers for themselves in the writing field. Elaine Dies is now writing John Robert Powers' column for him, and her name is known all over the country as the famous fashion model. Sara Rich has become successful with her company which manufacturers cashmere sweaters, and she has added hundreds of beautiful sweaters to her already staggering wardrobe. Suzanne Ellis and Pat Gordon have remained on Earth where they have founded the Memphis-Ole Miss Express which takes any and all from Memphis to the Rebel School in about ten minutes. This venture has paid off wonderfully for the two who are both now happily married. Dale Ragland,s new process for making white side-wall tires has made her famous throughout the country. She is now developing a new Half-Minute Car Wash which promises to be the fastest and best yet. Jane Nelson, wife of the new chaplain of Sewanee, bides her time acting as the Phi Gam house mother and teaching the Bible class. Kay Smith is still up to her old tricks of late-dating. and is still one of the most attractive girls in Space. Patty Speltz has had many of her songs on the Hit Parade, and they are sung all over the country. You will remember Patty's little ditties that she sang at Hutchison all the time. Laura Ann Smith now runs the home economics department of the Ameri- can Can Company and is heralded as the new Betty Crocker. Charlotte Lundeen is married to a handsome young surgeon who keeps her patched up for nothing. Eleanor Cahill is president of the Memphis Optical Company and has produced some strange and wonderful glasses for the girls at Hutchison. I must run now for my rocket will be leaving soon for Earth and back to the old grind at Hutchison from which I have not yet seemed to graduate Cthat Biologyj.
