Kurth, who so faithfully served as a member of our Board of Ed- ucation for thirty years. He acted in the capacity of President for eighteen years. At the time of his resignation in 1957, he had been re-elected for another three year term. During his thirty years of service, he was absent from but eleven regular or special Board meetings. Mr. Kurth took a very active part in the affairs of the Minnesota School Board Association for fourteen years. In 1948 he was pre- sented the Minneapolis Star-Tribune Award for outstanding educational leadership in the State of Minnesota. ln 1954 Mr. Kurth was recognized as tlie outstanding school board member from McLeod County. This honor was bestowed hy the Min- nesota State Fair Association. Finally, in 1955. the Distinguished Service Award was presented to Mr. Kurth through the Minnesota Education Association. Because of his genuine love for boys and girls, and his deep concern for the welfare of our faculty, we will always remember Mr. Kurth as a tireless worker for public education. Homecoming Homecoming was practically the biggest cele- lmration in the whole school year for the Hutchinson lligh school students. Our Homecoming activities started off with a pepfest where we gave our loyal support to our players. and the queen candidates did a few easy stunts. After the pepfest there was the parade in which all of the students in grades 7-12 took part. The seventh and eighth grades made banners while the freshmen, sophomores and juniors made floats which symbolized the slogan 'Shanghai the Dragons. BONFIRE 48 PEPFEST Immediately following the parade we burned the dragon in the bonfire. and announced the winning floats and banners. Seniors. band members. queen candidates. judges. last year's Homecoming queen, and alumni attended the banquet. The Tiger football team proved they could L'Shanghai the Dragonsi' by beating Litchfield. At last the most thrilling part of the game- the coronation. This year we had the great enter- tainer Harry Habata. The moment finally arrived when Judy Behrens was crowned 1957 Home- coming queen. After the coronation a dance was held and thus the end of a perfect day. ' 5 ,L , fu I -f Q ,wr 7 'f e U7mgqyk,y.fJA'i: ' ,4 L , A ' ' A M, 9 if J , , .MQ me zwzgfgwfxm 1 Aff? ' XA? Qi- ,gh Orchestra Mid-Winter Formal It's Bioclock on February 1 and we are just entering the Hutchinson school auditorium, for the 1958 Mid-Winter Formal. We notice the dark blue sky filled with snowflakes. On our right we are greeted by the reception line. As we go further into this Winter Wonderland, we see a forest of evergreens on our left, and across the skating rink lwhich is the dance floorl we see tables with little decorated snowmen on the tables. We walked through a large chalet and sat down just in time to hear the band play Winter Wonderland.,, We found our refreshments cen- tered around the snowman and so ended a wonder- ful evening. Congratulations,', to the Faculty Chairman Miss Forss, Miss Christianson, Mr. Brende, Miss Bucholz, Miss Johnson, Miss Griffin, and Mr. Dennison. General Chairwoman Marlyce Asp, and the committee chairmen and members for the very outstanding and successful Mid-Winter formal. It was again the outstanding social event on the school calendar and each one who had a part in its success is to be congratulated for their splendid effort. 9 e f lla ,J in 'av nfs r AJ UL' X f if P In fi 4 VA I by . , '- ,Q it S K 5 ' 1 ,A fi 'x . -5 1 Vg?
