Attempts To Understand Social Problems The Division of Social Science, Education, and Psychology was organized in 1962. From that time, we have continually departmentalized, the newest one formed this year. The instructors of psychology, sociology, marriage and family, and human growth and development, formed the department of hu- man behavior, headed by Chester E. Taylor. The department of history, economics, and political science is a proiect now under consideration. Courses that meet the need of general education will be added as growing demand and interest require. The chief aim of the division is to create some type of organizational structure that will facilitate the exchange of ideas within the disciplines con- cerned and lead to an improvement of curriculum and coordination of material offered. The philoso- phy is to provide the student with the background necessary to enable him to meet the problems presented by his environment, make him a better participating citizen, and to help him better suc- ceed as a transfer student. fi. s' fi' ' 49,1-.-. fr-FY! ft. Awaits New Science Building Arclon Brandyberry, Chairman, Biological Science William Maben, Zoology Gene Keody, Biology ,PH-1' included in this division are the departments of biology, home economics, and physical education. The division is so broad that an attempt to state a single philosophy is futile. The purpose of the life sciences is to prepare students for further work toward the bachelor's degree in the fields from physical education to pre-medicine. For those stu- dents who do not continue their education in a four-year institution, we hope that they will gain from our efforts, giving them some basic back- ground for being a better citizen of their commu- nity. s Of the many changes in the division, physical education is the most recent contribution. In addi- tion, the biology department has expanded its available selection of courses. Within the last five years, the staff has nearly doubled. The division is just now beginning to grow. Fur- ther growth will be possible with the new science building under construction. This will greatly en- large the facilities and provide badly needed space. It appears that growth will continue in stu- dent numbers, staff members, and course offer- in gs. Gary Withrow, Biology 2 s,.,, ...ogg M, 'ggqs,,,s,.. ,-H ,M V 4-sf ...M--A' rU:
