Winter Class of 1959 On February 2, I955, 96 freshmen enlered Sparla, and lhe class ol W'59 had ils beginning. Big high school sludenls, lhe lrosh were welcomed by lhe older and bigger iuniors and seniors, and lor lhe lirsl lime, Colon-'n-Cord, roolers lickels, service cards, and Sporls Nighl became 'Familiar lerms. The girls all had big sislers, and were honored al a Sparlanelle Sweelhearl parly which provided lheir lirsl glimpse ol lhe Social Hall. The class was honored al lhe Hearl Palrol Hop Howdy, where Janel Gail and Ernie Hughes were crowned king and queen. Tri-Hi-Hops lirsl began lhis lerm, and lhe lall semesler ol lhe lreshman year lound class members enioying lhe group's lirsl Sadie, Moonlighl Capers. As sophomores, class members enjoyed being one nolch higher on lhe scholaslic scale. Paula Reece was elecled sludenl body hislorian, and wenl on lo be- come commissioner ol awards while Pal Gilmore look over lhe hislorian posl. The lirsl Iowa lesls were laken. Wall Kurlz and Gene Walls were aclive in school plays. Wilh lhe help ol Mr. Sam Sachs, Junior sponsor, lhe class selecled Corinlhians as ils name, and Darrell O'Leary's emblem lo grace lhe red swealers. As Senior B's, Corinlhian girls look parl in Girls' Week, represenling lheir school in business and lhe communily. ln lhe Senior A semesler, Corinlhian Richard Lin- courl served as sludenl body presidenl and Marlha Marlin as vice-presidenl, while Sandy Johnson and Norm Clulf headed lhe League and Forum. Paula Ward was in charge ol Talenl Nominaling Commil- lee. Corinlhians were playing on lhe field and rooling in lhe slands as lhe loolball leam look lhe Easlern League championship. Baskelball, cross counlry and all lhe olher sporls provided good limes. Beach par- lies, snow parlies, lhe Senior picnic and Receplion, lhe Turkey Trol . . . all limes lo be remem- bered. Four years ol learning, leadership, and good limes made lhe Corinlhians slay al Sparla lruly golden.
